My wife and I recently returned fromno a trip to Spain centered around Madrid for our 20th wedding anniversary. This was our second trip to Madrid and so we decided to do a few different things this time. The most pleasant and wonderful surprise during the entire trip was this guided tour to Cuenca and the enchanted City. Our tour guides Marta, Jorge, and David were absolutely fantastic. As we were the only English speaking couple on the tour, we were given what can only be compared to a private tour. Jorge was like a personal guide for us during the trip to the enchanted City which is an incredible collection of rock formations the likes of which we had never experienced anywhere. Jorge showed a true passion for this place and really educated us on all the flora and fauna. He was a joy to spend time with. When we got to Cuenca proper, Marta guided my wife and myself through the city educating us and answering all our questions with great patience. I am inquisitive by nature and love Spanish history and she was very happy to share with us all her knowledge, even controversial issues such as the Inquisition and the Spanish Civil War and how that affected Cuenca. It was absolutely the best Day Tour we have ever been on. Great thanks to Marta, Jorge, David, and our driver whose name I am ashamed to say I cannot remember. You have given my wife and I a memory that we shall never forget.

The Roman City of Segóbriga was the capital of the mining district of Lapis Specularis (a variety of Plaster, which forms laminar glass). This mineral was used as a window pane and became a luxury item, until the laminated glass was developed and took its place. In that period, Segóbriga became one of the most prosperous and monumental cities of Roman Hispania (only seven cities in Hispania had Theater, Amphitheater and Circus). With the appearance of laminar glass and the end of the Lapis Specularis demand, Segóbriga's economy collapsed. Mines of Lapis Spacularis. We will visit examples of those mines that made Segóbriga and its mining district, one of the most prosperous areas of the Roman Empire. We will see how this crystal was extracted and how the miners lived and worked. Villa of Noheda. Finally, we will visit the archaeological park of the Villa de Noheda, where we can admire one of the largest preserved mosaics in the Roman world.

I went on this tour on Monday April 29, 2019. I wish I could give more stars especially since I thought our tour guides (Marta brought us to Cuenca from Madrid and led the Casas Colgadas walking tour in Cuenca and Cristian who was our local guide through the Cathedral) did an excellent job! The reasoning behind the two star deduction: 1) The tour was booked under operator "Cuenquendo" however the meeting site was designated at Trapsatur Day Tours office in Madrid. Also, if you press on the operator for the webpage of the day excursion "Cuenca Nature and City", it says closed... (!) Since I had already gone on another day excursion that had met up at Trapsatur on April 25, 2019, I decided to see what would happen. Fortunately, Trapsatur recognized my ticket and the tour I booked exists... what a relief! 2) I booked the tour with the "Touristic Lunch" included because I decided to be lazy and let the Tour handle it. We went to this restaurant about 5 minutes outside of the modern town center of Cuenca and the couple sitting next to me had ordered the same and had to return their appetizer plate because it was cold. My appetizer plate consisting of eggplant and meat not surprisingly was cold. I just sucked it up and ate it and didn't want to cause problems by returning the dish. Have to say, Spain has fantastic food and definitely this was the most disappointing meal I have ever had in Spain (as compared to my numerous meals from my multiple visits all over Spain).. Major :-(

We took the half day afternoon trip to Segovia 11/16/20. Everything was on time and smooth. We really didn’t need the guide as she gave very little information especially once we were in the town. We walked to the Alcazar and she gave us our tickets and said meet at the bus @6:30. It would’ve been nice to have a guide inside the castle but it was fine. Just FYI if you go in the winter it is much colder and windier in Segovia than Madrid!! Seems expensive just for the bus ride there.
