The province of Carbonia-Iglesias (Italian: provincia di Carbonia-Iglesias, Sardinian: provìntzia de Carbònia-Igrèsias) was a province in the autonomous region of Sardinia, Italy. It included the historical area of Sulcis-Iglesiente and it was the smallest province of Sardinia. It is bordered by the provinces of Cagliari and Medio Campidano. All three provinces (Carbonia-Iglesias, Cagliari, and Medio Campidano) have been suppressed by the regional decree in 2016. [1]

We did the 3 day 4 night SW Sardinia cycling trip. It was perfectly organised from start to finish - great pre arrival info, lovely touches like map and water bottle, very informative cycling notes. Good change of views and terrain. We are 4 non cyclists- but active in other sports and 1 cyclist and we found it not necessarily easy but not difficult- just right. The teens were happy with 3 days of cycling and were glad to have a rest. We adults could have cycled more! Would highly recommend and if we get the chance, will do another tour.

Michele Pinna is an experienced and professional turist guide. He has been working as a turist guide for many years and is a very skilled professionist in his sector, one of the few in South-West Sardinia. His knowledge of the terrotory and history gives the trekking a much more pleasant and enjoyable touch. I highly recommend it. Such a great experience!

Porto Flavia is one of the wonders of Sardinia. This monument of extraordinary industrial archeology dominates an enchanting coast, giving visitors a breathtaking view of the thousand shades of blue of the Masua sea and the suggestive Faraglione di Pan di Zucchero, a 133-meter natural monument. A real engineering masterpiece that improved the working conditions of the miners and reduced the time and cost of transporting the ore. The name of the port was given by the engineer Cesare Vecelli. The designer of the work wanted to give him the name of his daughter. The port remained operational until the 1960s. During the guided tour of Porto Flavia you go through the upper gallery until you reach the terrace from which you can enjoy a unique panorama.

I have to say we felt a bit mislead, we had been advised at the airport by the travel office and strangely by the car hire representative that this was a must see place in Sardinia so had driven 2 hours to get here. Our guide was very good, she explained the requirement for the tunnel and why it allowed larger ships to take the mined ore away in greater quantities. We got to understand the difficulties of digging the tunnel as we walked along and how it affected jobs and the community. At the end we arrived at the point that the ships used to be loaded and had a good view out to sea and then walked back. This itself is not the mine, you do drive past the abandoned mine on your way to here. I don't really see this as an attraction for children unless there are very interested in industrial/economic history. Certainly our teenage daughter who is interested in history and does history A level was quite bored. On some practical points, the car park is very small and even in late October we were very lucky to be able to get a space. There is a food truck, but you can only pay by cash.
