What an incredible place to explore. Visiting the Este (Alfonsine) Castle near Brindisi reinvigorating my love for archaeology. My husband and I spent 2+ hours wandering the grounds and appreciating this architectural marvel. This medieval castle is remarkably well-preserved and one of the coolest places you can visit in southern Italy. Since our visit here, we've scouted out castles to visit at nearly every place we've traveled! This place will excite you, provoke interesting conversations about residents past and make you wish you could meet them to hear their tales. Go! Pro Tips: - There isn't a bathroom onsite, so plan accordingly! - Bring a flashlight so you can explore some of the lower levels - Wear sunscreen if you're visiting in the summer as there isn't much shade if you're exploring the outside grounds
