As the capital city of the Republic of Kosovo, it is the center of cultural and artistic development of all Albanians that live in Kosovo. The centre of Prishtina is full of fascinating architecture- modern EU or US funded towers full of glass and steel, sitting next to ageing Yugoslavian Communist era blocks that would have once housed ‘the workers’. With a fascinating and admittedly troubled past, Kosovo is now welcoming almost 200,000 visitors each year and this trend is set to continue as word gets out about its trendy, low-cost, and quirky capital.

All I can say is WOW! We didn't have much time to spend in Albania and this tour covered all of the history and culture one can indulge in just a few days. We started in the ancient city of Durres with a little walkthrough of the history and some stunning views. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable all the way through. What more can you ask for on such a short trip? It was good times and stunning views combined with hilarious banter and cultural education of the region. I particularly liked Shkodra Lake. I wish we had more time. Don't miss this one! Thanks again!

I went on a two day tour with Besim and couldn't have asked for a kinder, more passionate guide! I contacted Init via their website and got a quick response where we then discussed what i was hoping to do with my time. I got an excellent tailored yet flexible plan which was fantastic (more info below). Bes is honest and helpful, he will really show you kosovo - it's knockout beauty, it's history, where it currently is struggling and where it's aiming to be. I am coming back as there is so much more to see and i want to go climbing, i know i will be contacting Init Experience again! Kosovo has captured my curiosity! My trip: I got picked up by Bes and then we went to valbona to hike during the day. It was beautiful and Bes expertly spoke about the area and was always conscious of pace and safety (he is also a cracking photographer, so don't worry everything will be captured!). we stayed in a local guest house and experienced homemade, delicious cooking with a big bonfire (all could speak English and were very kind, hope youre hungry!).the second day was poor weather so we drove to Pejë to do the via ferrata. It is good fun with a dash of adrenaline, i was even surprised at the top with a selection of cakes as it was my birthday! we also did a spontaneous swim in a natural spring pool - it was really warm, even in nov! I also got shown around prishtina by Bes the following day and hiked with him around the city in the national park. This is a v brief overview,i could say so much more about my amazing experience! Thank you, ????!

If you are planning a Balkan trip, Prizren is a must-see destination you should add to your bucket list. Prizren is considered as the cultural capital of Kosovo, mixing its rich history, incredible nature, religious tolerance and gastronomic delights. Prizren has played an important role in the region as an Illyrian settlement and a crossroads for the Byzantine and Ottoman empires, contributing to the unique architecture of the city. The best way to explore the town is by wandering through the streets passing by elegant medieval houses that fight for your attention. Did you know that The Church of Our Lady of Ljevis is a UNESCO World Heritage site? If you have to choose just one mosque to visit then visit the Sinan Pasha Mosque, rich in arabesque color and pattern. The view from the fortress on the hill above the town offers a great panorama of this astonishing town.

Our guide, Ilir, was excellent. He spoke perfect English and lakes to us in an interesting and truthful way. It was great to hear the old and more recent history of Kosovo particularly when the guidebooks you’re the area are limited. We had a good walking tour around Pristina. It’s not the prettiest town nor has a great number of sights but hearing about life there from our guide brought the place to life. We then visited the monastery, a world heritage site, and ended at the pretty town of Prizen where we enjoyed a great lunch and a walk around the pleasant streets. Highly recommend tour and tour guide.
