Sandbanks Provincial Park

Reviewed By 220Hank

We spent a week with all of our family in Wellington & took them to Sandbanks Provincial Park a number of times as they all loved the wonderful sandy beach & facilities The Grandchildren loved it & had a great time. It is so large & safe for the children as it is shallow for a long ways. Bring chairs & umbrellas & sunscreen.

Point Petre Wildlife Conservation Area

While a simple beach on Lake Ontario, it is right next to CFB Picton Training area where in the 1950's, models of the Avro Arrow were launched to test wing shapes.

We love going to Point Petre, no matter what time of year, it's beautiful. Unfortunately, hunters have been going there and not picking up their shot gun shells. It's sad to see all the garbage all over the beach. My kids decided to reuse the shells to make a beach Christmas tree was the best thing to do...

Many a celebration takes place within this park and offers tourists as well as locals to visit the outdoor market located to the east of Wellington United Church. During the hot summer months, local bands are featured on stage in The New Gazebo every Tuesday evening at no cost. Available are hot dogs, drinks, etc. at no charge (but small donations will be accepted) from the Lions Club. This park comes alive during special occasions like Canada Day, Pumpkin Fest, and other special holidays. Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory

Prince Edward County has the highest concentration and abundance of migratory birds anywhere on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario. Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory Spring Birding Festival, May 10-19, 2014 – guided hikes, workshops, banding demonstrations and more.

We had an interesting talk with some commercial fishermen docked at the end of the road. The short walk to the lighthouse begins at the end of the road and takes 15-20 minutes. We saw many Monarch butterflies and did our best to avoid stepping on thousands of little frogs. It's worth the short hike for the scenery, even though the lighthouse isn't the most picturesque Great Lakes light.

Lake on the Mountain

Reviewed By Companion600499 - Foxboro, Canada

Lake on the Mountain is a unique geological formation with a wonderful view of the channel and ferry to Adolphustown across from the lake. We've visited many times over the years always taking visitors new to our area for a short visit. You may still be able to fish and canoe, but you must bring your own equipment. Nice place to stop for a picnic or even better support the Miller House and with seasonal craft beers and wonderful charcuterie platters to share to go with a nice glass of wine, a favourite among small groups...my favourite stop on our tourist route! The restaurant at the Inn by the Lake on the Mountain is a favourite of our sons to take his lady for special dinners.
