Things to do in Pozzuoli, Campania: The Best Archaeology Tours

January 9, 2022 Alida England

Just a few miles west of Naples (and easily reached by train), the ancient seaside city of Pozzuoli is probably best known for its bradyseism, a raising and lowering of the Earth’s surface due to underground volcanic activity. Many sites remain from Pozzuoli’s days as an important Roman port, including the Macellum or Temple of Serapis, which for many years was submerged under water. The Flavian Amphitheater (Italy’s third-largest) and the Cathedral of Rione Terra are other popular attractions.

Meeting point and pick-up at the cruise terminal. I would like to thank Tour Guide Naples for the excellent service and professional employees. The Capri excursion was great with Ugo that he is very professional in his work and even a very nice guy with people. The Blue Grotto was amazing, I know that is not polite to say, but because of the pandemic we enjoyed every place we went in quiet without lining nowhere even at the Blue Grotto we were alone and my kids could even get the permission for a little swim into the cave !!! I want to thank you for everything and for sure if I will have other trip to Italy, you'll be the only 1 company to work with.

I booked this tour on getYourGuide and would recommend it. The service is really great! They came to pick us up directly at the hotel and, after a temperature measurement, they drove us to Pompeii. Equipped with comfortable radios, a very competent and friendly guide led us along a guided tour lasting about 2-3 hours. We passed through several important points of Pompeii. If you want to spend more time in Pompeii (the place allows it), maybe you should not go with a tour, but I found very comfortable this type of visit: very concrete and not very dispersive. Immediately after we go to a pizzeria where we have lunch with a margherita (quite good and, however, included in the price) and coffee offered by the very kind owner of the place. Afterwards we were led up to the slopes of Vesuvius, from which it is possible to take a walk. There are guides on site that will accompany you and a beautiful bar at a very high point. Then we were quietly escorted back to the hotel. Recommended!
