Addo Elephant National Park was proclaimed in 1931 to provide a safe haven for the few wild elephants that survived the early 20th century. Today the elephants number in their hundreds, thanks to the efforts of the National Parks Board and a unique vegetation type - subtropical thicket, or valley bushveld. It is this thick, impenetrable vegetation that has not only provided protection for the elephants and buffalo in the area, but also provided a rich food source, supporting what is now the most dense population of wild elephants on the planet. Our game drive concentrates on finding and viewing elephants. Buffalo, Rhino and Lion sightings of the latter are a definite bonus, while you may also be lucky enough to see dung beetles keeping the park tidy!
Inclusions: Private transportation, Light South African Braai (BBQ) in the park to use the toilet facilities and stretch the legs.
Exclusions: Food and drinks, Lunch, Gratuities

I have sent many of my tourists and guests on tours with Peter Giddy and they have always come back with glowing reports of the wonderful time they had. I was privileged to take my grandson on a hike up the Lady Slipper Mountain just outside Port Elizabeth. Peter was a great host and made the walk so interesting by pointing out different plants along the way and telling us stories about the area. He has many other walking/hiking tours and I would recommend that you do as many of these with Peter as you can I would recommend any tour with Peter.

Tldr: book this trip already!!???? I would 100% recommend this experience. We did our 3 day garden route tour from CPT to Port Elizabeth. Everything about my experience with Umzantsi was great. The trip was arranged on short notice and they were able to organize and deliver the most memorable experience ever. The communication and the logistics by Umzantsi were very well done. Peter Haller, our Tour guide was awesome. He knows a lot about the landscape as well as both the current and historical information about the towns/places along the route. It was just so much fun having him as our tour guide and getting all the interesting information from him. He made sure that we saw and experienced all the amazing places along the way. It is really a very rewarding and memorable tour.

Jeandre was a really experience and friendly guide. He picked us up in time at 6:15 and we drove to Addo national park for approximate 40mintues. The park opens for guests at 7:00 and we had been the first guests at the southern gate. It took a few minutes and we spotted the first kudus in the bush. Although it was a really hot day (+43 degrees celsius) we have seen a lot of animals in the park: Ostrich Black-headed heron Blacksmith Lapwing Elephant Buffalo Red Hartebeest Eland Kudu Burchell‘s Zebra Warthog Vervet monkey Flightless Dung Beatle Leopard Tortoise Butterflies Bush caterpillars Bush spiders After our lunch at the northern gate at approx. 11:30, Jeandre drove on our request additionally to an area where lions had been spotted, but unfortunately they hided in the bush. It was a really great experience and Jeandre explained everything clearly and he answered all our questions. We definitely can recommend the privat tour with Jeandre; thank you for the great day :)
