We visited La Bambouseraie just a few days ago. The online booking process was simple and efficient as we printed of the receipt and this was accepted with no problem. We arrived in time and the office was empty however we called the phone number provided and M. Brisson appeared shortly thereafter. The visit was very good. Although M Brisson did not speak much English and we do not speak a great deal of French but we got through the visit with the occasional help of Google Translate!! This garden is not all about bamboo! There are plenty more plants, flowers and animals to see. And, at the end of the garden visit, you can sample and buy the Brisson Pineau , Cognacs and Cognac Liqueurs which we did!!

The Ephemeral Gardens flood each winter before springing back to life when the water recedes. Each year professional and amateur gardeners, artists, and associations plant and cultivate a parcel of the gardens according to a chosen theme, offering visitors a fun and colourful stroll. This year's theme is Colours and Scents - come visit the gardens in full bloom.

The Nombril du Monde (navel of the world) is a cultural center and tourist attraction. It is situated in Pougne-Hérisson, a village filled with myths and legends. It is said that it is the place where all the tales were born into the world. The Nombril du Monde hosts The Garden of Stories, a garden with a sound system filled with tales and stories, that can be visited freely. The Nombril du Monde also provides guided tour and artistic shows during summer.

Worth the drive to the end of the island, great views, plentiful parking, small fee to climb the lighthouse. If you have small children or adults who wish to be children north beach access gives rock pools and interesting rock strata. There are cafes, shops but a lovely picnic site should you wish. Sadly the madding crowds are there in abundance.

On the Charente Dordogne border very close to Aubeterre sur Dronne. This charming family garden on 2 hectares works in harmony with the natural world. The gardens are tended with respect for the environment and local biodiversity. Three large areas: the green rooms, the wild garden and lavender field and the lake alongside Paloma’s wood. Open from Tuesday to Sunday see. No dogs allowed. More informations and hours to www.lesjardinsducoq.com
