Plymouth (/ˈplɪməθ/ ( listen)) is a city on the south coast of Devon, England, about 37 miles (60 km) south-west of Exeter and 190 miles (310 km) west-south-west of London. It lies between the mouths of the rivers Plym to the east and Tamar to the west, where they join Plymouth Sound to form the boundary with Cornwall.

We are Roam Brewing Company. We are an award winning microbrewery operating in the heart of Plymouth. We open our doors as a Taproom on Fridays and Saturdays, pizza is available from 17:30 on both days. We also operate as a bakery on Saturday and Sunday mornings, making artisan breads and sweet treats using spent grain from the brewing process. We welcome families and dogs.

Roughly eight months since they first opened and four months since our first visit, Roam goes from strength to strength. Still only opening on Friday and Saturday but except perhaps mid afternoon, generally all the tables are packed with enthusiastic affable likeable folk, often friends and or neighbours with an uplifting spread and balance of ages.The range of ales etc is first rate all in perfect condition. Particularly like the porters and whatever they have in the cask, although beware that can run out a bit before Saturday closing - ‘when it’s gone, it’s gone’. I really wish they could have a second racked up out the back. Some choices can come as a moderate challenge, psychologically it takes me a while to adjust to one bright opaque yellow one which is flagged up as ‘unfined’. I wish they opened slightly longer arms, maybe Sunday lunchtime and afternoon, perhaps just an hour later on Friday and Saturday night. But I can see that the clientele seems content with breaking off at 9pm in order to trek down into town , or over to the Plain, or as in our case to stroll home. We enjoy the bread and the croissants which are sold here early morning on Saturdays (Sunday’s have been dropped) but note that so much was selling out so fast, it seems that maybe two thirds is now preordered. If you haven’t tried Roam yet then it’s either what you’ve always dreamed of or it is a curiosity/novelty that is easily worth sampling. Be aware that although not a related business, Plymouth’s next new ‘tap haus’ is due to open within the next few weeks on Mutley Plain which will stretch the genre and choices locally. The more the merrier.

Visited for a family birthday meal. Temperatures taken & mask-wearing requirements clearly explained to us on arrival. Q codes on the tables which were well spaced apart. I liked the industrial decor with scaffolding poles used for tables and sheets of chipboard on the walls Decent selection of beers and soft drinks, and we’d booked a pizza delivery from Knead Pizzas. Not a beer expert by any means, but the ones I had were good - full of flavour and not your typical pub beer, but Bulletproof isn’t your typical Mutley pub either. Well worth a visit.

We had a brilliant visit to Steel Brewery. Due to COVID-19 restrictions we pre booked a table which was swift and easy. On the day of the visit, the greeting was warm and welcoming. We were shown our seats and table service was speedy, with great knowledge of the beers. We were invited to taste and if we were unsure, the staff would recommend beers on our taste. All of this was conducted without being pushy, which suggests that customer quality is paramount instead of revenue which is great to see. Our table expired but we loved it so much, the staff were able to keep us in for an extra hour, again swift pragmatic thinking. Steel brewery mentioned that they have portaloos in place at the minute, that said, they are the posh caravan ones and are extremely clean. I have been in worse fixed toilets in the city!! The facilities are excellent! We will be back, many thanks for a great, chilled, afternoon out.
