Pinehurst Course Number 2

Stretching 7,020 yards at Par 72, this championship golf course is very green and relatively flat, with tall pines on every hole.

Was fortunate enough to be given a tee time for No. 2 by my family for Christmas. I've grown up admiring this course and always dreamed of playing it. This course was everything I imagined and more! To begin, the history of this course and Pinehurst at that is incredible. Just walking the same grounds that some of the greatest to ever play have walked will give you chills. Take your time and walk the clubhouse and take it all in! Everyone we encountered was top notch and friendly as could be. The pro shop, cart guy, starter and forecaddie were all awesome and helpful. I played with my 12 year old son and they all made sure he felt special and included. The course is a brute. It's not necessarily the fairways or even the waste areas, it's mainly the green complexes. They're basically all humpback and quick. Difficult for an average golfer to land and hold from any distance outside a wedge range. I went in with low expectations about how I would play and met those expectations! A day later a friend asked if I'd play again.....I think I would like to play it again now knowing what I'm up against and how to play the course, but I wouldn't want to take that beating several more times! Get a caddie! We had Freddy and he was awesome! The reads on and around the greens were spot on. Club recommendations were dead on as well. More importantly he treated my son like he was just like every other adult he caddies for and that was awesome! Really a great experience. I stuck a tee shot on 9 for a tap in 2 and he told us about the "2 on No. 2" coin I could get after my round. Cool idea and memento! So glad to check this one off the list! Great experience from beginning to end!

Really enjoyed playing number 8, probably our favorite after 2. The course is very challenging, the greens ran fast and true and it had a lot of memorable holes. Great round of golf.

The Cradle Par 3 course is totally laid back. We played Pinehurst #2 which was a long round, walking. Some guys in our group signed up to play another 18 holes on Course #7, but a few of us elected to play the Cradle Par 3 instead. What a treat. It is totally laid back, and perfect way to finish in the afternoon after playing the challenging #2. Recommend the Woodpecker drink at Pine Cone bar on the Cradle. The other guys got worn out on #7 and only played nine holes - they tried to get on Cradle, but it was booked solid so you should book a tee time in advance.

Don't discount this course because it has 9 holes...its challenging and the price was beyond reasonable. We went back to play it again on our golf trip; we needed a feel good game before we returned home.
