Most famous for hosting the annual New Year's Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl, Pasadena is more than just a football town. Its extravagant City Hall boasts a beautiful Baroque dome, a courtyard garden and relaxing fountain. On South Orange Boulevard, known as Millionaires' Row, there are landmarked mansions to rival the most opulent homes of Beverly Hills. That chattering in the air is probably the local population of naturalized Red-crowned Amazon parrots.

Just came back from a long weekend in Pasadena. I have to say that Vroman's is a local gem. Warm and inviting. I really appreciated how the various sections were set up with related materials. Awesome fountain pen and ink selections - with staff that are both knowledgeable and friendly. The ink colour choices were outstanding. They opened a wine bar area last week. Fun to have a nice glass of wine and a munchie after making your purchases. Once again the staff super friendly and welcoming. I wish we could have a Vroman's in the East Bay!

This chocolate shop is around the corner from our Marriott Courtyard in Pasadena. We've walked by there often, but it was always in the evening, so the shop was closed. Today (8/6), we arrived at the Hotel early, and had to wait for our room, so we took a walk around the block, and found this shop open. We were a bit timid about only buying one or two chocolates apiece, but the pleasant person behind the counter made us feel at ease. Everything looked so delicious, it was hard to choose. My husband definitely wanted to try the dark chocolate chili pepper truffle, so he asked for that one, plus a Mignon special truffle. I chose two with caramel. The four bite sized pieces of chocolate came out to $7.00, so this is not your everyday Hershey bar. As soon as we left the shop, we had to try them, and they truly were super delicious. Just melted in your mouth. We both were very happy with our choices, and this definitely was a treat. We had had no lunch, and were happy that now, we were fine until dinner.

Always busy with stalls selling produce, honey, desserts, ethnic food (Indian, Mediterranean, Asian) plants etc. Thursdays 4-6 pm. Go early and find a parking spot nearby as the nearby streets are closed when the market is on.
