Things to do in Paris, Ile-de-France: The Best Sights & Landmarks

December 10, 2021 Augustus Redeker

Lingering over pain au chocolat in a sidewalk café, relaxing after a day of strolling along the Seine and marveling at icons like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe… the perfect Paris experience combines leisure and liveliness with enough time to savor both an exquisite meal and exhibits at the Louvre. Awaken your spirit at Notre Dame, bargain hunt at the Marché aux Puces de Montreuil or for goodies at the Marché Biologique Raspail, then cap it all off with a risqué show at the Moulin Rouge.

Quartier Montparnasse

This lively neighborhood is located in the 14th Arrondissement.

Montparnasse is the area we always try to stay when we visit Paris. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist hot spots and this is exact what we like. We always stay at the Marriott Rive Gauche. The Montparnasse Cemetery is a tranquil spot to reflect, there is a street market right next to it on Saturdays... The energy of Montparnasse at night is just second to none: a real Mecca of cafes, bars, night clubs, restaurants, ice cream shops for all budgets and tastes, Galerie Lafayette is a great place for shopaholics, and visit the Tour Montparnasse of course for the sweeping views of the City of Lights.

The double decker Bir Hakeim bridge is a masterpiece of engineering allowing metro, cars and pedestrians to cross it. The lower level is for cars and pedestrians, while on the upper platform runs the metro. The lower level has several excellent Eiffel tower view points.

I'm surprised that many of the reviews of this is that it's hard to find - because I took a wrong turn and happened upon it. I was blown away!! (To tell the truth if I would have been looking for it I may not have found it!) A very moving memorial to one of the dark periods in Paris history. I wish I could have learned about it before going - but now learning about it afterwards is good, too. From Bir Hakeim Metro Station going away from the river, turn right on Rue Nélaton, memorial is about 100 feet down on the right behind ornate fence.
