Things to do in Paris, Ile-de-France: The Best Ghost & Vampire Tours

March 24, 2022 Marianna Hollaway

Lingering over pain au chocolat in a sidewalk café, relaxing after a day of strolling along the Seine and marveling at icons like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe… the perfect Paris experience combines leisure and liveliness with enough time to savor both an exquisite meal and exhibits at the Louvre. Awaken your spirit at Notre Dame, bargain hunt at the Marché aux Puces de Montreuil or for goodies at the Marché Biologique Raspail, then cap it all off with a risqué show at the Moulin Rouge.

After a week of tours, this was top on our family’s list. We have three kids, ranging in age from 9-21 and each of them thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Even more than that, my husband, who typically does not enjoy museum tours, said it was his favorite. Inna, our guide, did an exceptional job of organizing the tour around the major movements leading up to impressionism through post-Impressionism. We all left with a much better appreciation and understanding of this important era in art.

This was the best tour. Nick was so knowledgable and helpful answering all our questions. He was very pleasant and friendly. He showed up on time and we went right in to the Louvre skipping the line. I would recommend this tour for getting more in-depth information. We have been to the Louvre before and we learned so many new things. Thank you Nick, it was a pleasure meeting you!

I can't recommend My Private Paris enough. What a fantastic experience! I recently went on a tour of Montmartre with Marie (one of the founders) and Raphaelle, who are brilliant guides - friendly, kind, funny and an endless source of knowledge! I learnt so much about Montmartre, its history, culture and famous figures, with amazing local info and tips too (Raphaelle lives there). Marie and Raphaelle were incredibly engaging and they packed so much in (including some delicious sweet treats from bakeries en route!), going above and beyond while still ensuring it was comfortable, fun and personal. I feel like a local now! It was such a privilege to have a tour from people who clearly just love what they do and thrive off doing it - truly an unforgettable experience. I will 100% book more tours with them when I next return to Paris - this is by far the best way to get to know the city. Merci My Private Paris et a bientôt !

Visiting Paris is exciting, but maybe you get tired of the regular tours and want something different and intriguing. During this particular tour you will learn and understand the life of major Parisian serial killers from the 20th century. First, you will visit the place where Blue Beard from Gambais stayed. This is a killer that raped women in his apartments. This case was quite challenging for the French police, as Blue Beard did manage to escape justice for more than 10 years. Another case you will encounter during the tour is Doctor Satan. This killer suggested people that were afraid of the Gestapo to go through the free zone so they can avoid problems. But instead they were ambushed, robbed and killed. And you will also learn about a cannibal that killed a girl from Holland and actually ate some of her. During the trip you will also learn about an anonymous killer with a grilled face which people considered to be involved in many attacks between 1986 and 1994.

We had an excellent experience with out Memories France guide Caroline at the Musee D'Orsay. We met for a two hour tour on a Saturday morning - there were 6 of us in the small group. Caroline was very knowledgeable and provided background on many paintings to give us a depth of understanding we would never have had otherwise. Who would have known that the face in a painting of a funeral procession was the face of the Emperor of France, and what was being buried under the funeral pall was liberty? Many insight such as these made for an educational and informative tour. Highly recommend.
