We took a taxi($3) 3.5 km north from our Downtown Oasis Guesthouse to the Saoena Zondagmarkt. This large Indonesian Market is 150 m from the 'Sanya Budaya' Cultural Center where the tall 1990 Javanese Immigration Monument celebrates 100 years since the 33,000 contract workers came from Java in 1890. This weekly gathering is a festival for the descendants, a flea market, has produce, ready to eat food, music, a bit of everything. Family friendly and enjoyable.

From the bicycle rental company, you cycle to the Plattebrug where you will board a wooden tent boat to Meerzorg. From Meerzorg you will cycle via the Oost - West verbinding to Peperpot. This plantation was laid out by the Jansen family in the early 19th century as a coffee and cocoa plantation. There are two plantation homes on the factory complex, a coffee shed and a coffee and cacao factory. The production continued until 1996. There is also a kampong (settlement) with workers' houses inhabited by Javanese people, although people have found work elsewhere. You can still recognize the coffee and cacao trees, which are nowadays covered with bromeliads, orchids and climbing plants and the animals have reclaimed the area.
