This lighthouse is sitting on the top of the hill on the outskirts of Byron Bay township with a great circuit walking trail that goes up and around the entire headland. Also a great place to spot whales off the headland during migration season This walk is moderate from the main Byron Bay Beach with amazing views or you can park closer and walk up! “Jonique Life” Follow our journey around Australia on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube as we highlight wonderful experiences and magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.

After a challenging drive up from Sugarloaf Bay (2 way traffic on a single lane with crazy drivers parking on each side) it was a steep walk up from the car park adjacent to the former Keeper's Cottages. Spectacular views of the Lighthouse on the approach to spectacular views from the Lighthouse (of Lighthouse Beach) Culminating in a short climb up the external steps to the first level balcony A challenge and climb well rewarded.

Interesting visit to the inner light house to see some of Port Stephens history and view of Shoal Bay and out the headlands.

This lighthouse has an amazing viewing platform where you can sit and watch the sea for hours. I noted a few people have said access was prevented due to road works. If you are physically able continue down the road to lighthouse beach carpark. Walk down to the beach and to the base of the lighthouse around 100m; stairs (about 50) go to the top with a rest station on the way.

Nobbys Lighthouse sits high on Nobbys Headland guarding the entrance to Newcastle Harbour. It has been an active lighthouse for over 150 years and continues to safely direct ships in and out of Newcastle harbour. The site is an iconic landmark at well-loved location in Newcastle. The Nobbys Lighthouse grounds are open every Sunday from 10am to 4pm and entry to the site is free. Parking is located adjacent to Nobbys Beach at Camp Shortland. The lighthouse is an 800 metre walk from the car park, with a steep climb at the end. There is a small kiosk on site serving tea, coffee and cold drinks. Visitors are welcome to pack their own supplies and make the most of the beautiful 360 degree views. The current lease holder, Newcastle Now, cares for the site to ensure it is open to the public every Sunday of the year. A proud and dedicated team of volunteers works hard to welcome visitors, they love to share their knowledge of the city and its surrounds with tourists. Newcastle Now, is undertaking an ambitious plan to raise funds to support the development of the site, ultimately delivering a unique tourism venue to serve the local community and visitors to the region.
Nobby’s Lighthouse is an easy walk on Saturday or Sunday. Take photos of the city, ships leaving the harbour accompanied by tugs, ships entering the harbour and Nobby’s Beach.

Beautifully restored Lighthouse Keepers Quarters dating back to 1903. The Lighthouse Keepers Quarters consist of two recently upgraded 3 bedroom cottages located on the headland with magnificent ocean vistas. On site hosts are at your beck and call. Sleeping up to 8 people in each fully self contained cottage. Norah Head is the perfect escape for a romantic weekend for two or a family week away. With more upgrades in the near future the Lighthouse Trust looks forward to welcoming many more visitors through working lighthouse.
Lovely walk out on either the road or bush track from Bush St. Good signage and interesting memorial to the many shipwrecks on the point. Worth taking a guided tour to gain an extra perspective. I'd be interested to know the standard and charge of the accommodation available.

We looked up the tides and set off to cross in the window where you could get across the spit without getting your feet (too) wet. What an experience! Not only was the beach walk spectacular (my favourite) but you get to experience history as well. As a ‘local’ I never knew this existed! We even had time to have a swim in the sheltered beach on the other side of the spit. PS We recently (Sept 2020) attempted to cross again but hazardous surf has limited access. If you can do it safely, it’s worth doing.

The impressive lighthouse has a huge area of grassland surrounding it making it a great spot for a picnic. The lighthouse stands on top of the big hill near the entrance to the Clarence River and there are wonderful views over the entrance and the break wall as well as over Main Beach. Near the water tower on the Western side of the hill stands the original lighthouse which is now home to the local radio station.
