Things to do in Outer Banks, North Carolina Coast: The Best Food & Drink

August 9, 2021 Hector Krause

The Outer Banks of North Carolina is a 100-mile stretch of barrier islands dotted with pristine beaches, quaint towns and historic sites. If you love swimming, kayaking, or surfing, be sure to visit the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. To really experience local culture, explore each coastal village and sample as much food as you can along the way. (Pro tip: Try the catch of the day.) If you’re looking for a history lesson, check out Roanoke Island or the Wright Brothers National Memorial. And of course, no day is complete without watching the sunset from Jockey’s Ridge.

The Mother Vine

Reviewed By cryoung2 - Charleston, United States

This massive vine is relatively easy to find on Roanoke Island. Go into Matteo and drive toward the Aquarium and Airport and Mother vineyard Road is near the Airport on the opposite side of the road. Drive down Mother Vinyard Road approximately 3/4 mile and look for a home made sign announcing the vine. There are two houses with the vine between them and the first house you come to has a separate parking area for the vine. Very impressive piece of history.

Northern Outer Banks Brewing Company

Reviewed By FiveOaks61 - Rolling Prairie, United States

Wonderful beer brewed by a husband and wife who are passionate about the craft. This micro brewery is only a couple of years old but they have perfected a good variety of craft beers. The focus is on the beer so do not expect anything close to fancy. You are sitting at a plastic table talking with the brewer who is most passionate about what he does. Great IPA,s, a wonderful Mexican Amber Lager and a darn good Saison. Stop in and get a flight to sample for yourself you won’t be disappointed.
