With hundreds of man-made lakes, state parks, casinos, museums and nightlife and dining opportunities in revitalized downtown areas in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, there is a lot to see and do in the Sooner State. The state is dotted with phenomenal lakes where swimming, boating and bass fishing are the most desired activities. Some of the state’s most popular lakes include Broken Bow Lake located near the Quachita Mountains; Grand Lake in the northeastern corner of the state at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and Lake Murray in the hills in the southern part of the state.
While the state is known for its many outdoor activities like great fishing, golf, hiking, canoeing and boating, make sure you don’t overlook its fantastic museums. Heading the list are Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, featuring the world’s largest collection of art and artifacts from the American West; the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, which tells the story of the American Cowboy; and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, which has a permanent collection of American and European art. A venerable family favorite activity is Frontier City Amusement Park in Oklahoma City, which has dozens of rides and shows.

Excellent trail system for mountain biking and hiking. There’s everything from beginner to technical trails to suit everyone’s abilities. The trails are designed to shed water too so they’re open almost year round. Highly recommend these for all levels of bikers.

I consider Tahlequah to be a very pretty town with a stream that runs through town along part of the History Trail. There are lots of benches and shade trees so walking the trail is easy. In addition there are displays along the trail that give historical facts about the Cherokee Nation and some of it's more well known members.

Hike has good views of rolling prairie, canyons, & mesas in historic Santa Fe Trail no-mans region of the OK panhandle. There is 1/3 mile of rocky steep eroded switchbacks which may require slow careful descent for some novices with knee or ankle instability. The last mile on the Mesa top is very exposed to wind, bad weather, and lightning so watch the weather and do this in the cooler months or start at dawn in the summer. There are B&B’s nearby to use for an early start. The summit and trail are located in the Black Mesa Nature Preserve. Do not confuse this location with the Black Mesa State Park, which is about 10 mi SE and has the campground.

Turner Falls Park in Davis, OK is an adventurous and family-friendly annual destination nestled in the Arbuckle Mountains and home to a 77ft waterfall. Our park is open 7 days a week from 7am to 10pm. There are no pets allowed and no glass bottles. A Proud Adventure Road Travel Partner.
We went on a Friday early in the morning. I suggest you purchase tickets online, to insure you get in. Weekdays are less busy, weekends are crowded & holidays are packed! I will post a park map. There is 3 basic areas. The first one is the area with diving boards & slides. The second area is the river part & you can swim or get in any area. The third area is at the top with the waterfall & pool area. Life guards were on duty the day we were there. Anyone under 13 must wear a life jacket. I would pay for parking there, they didn’t charge us to park & I think it was because it wasn’t a busy time. You can bring in food, just please pick up after yourselves. There are trails to hike too & a zip line chair at the top.
