Ōdate (大館市, Ōdate-shi) is a city in Akita Prefecture, Japan. As of February 2015, the city has an estimated population of 74,862, and a population density of 82 persons per km². The total area is 913.22 square kilometres (352.60 sq mi).

Lots of people know the story of Japan's most- loved dog, the ever- loyal Hachiko. Few know that Hachiko moved to Tokyo from Odate. This statue is at the Odate train station, and there's an Akita museum in the sort- of downtown area. (Hachiko was an Akita breed.)
