In the Oakland hills, this park has something for everyone! A train ride and carousel for kids and adults, a Botanic Garden, a golf course, hiking trails. And spectacular views of the SF Bay

No one from out of town would ever find this place, but it is a favorite for families in the Berkeley/Oakland area. It is quite long giving it two areas to picnic. There is parking only in one area and you can stay there, but if you walk you’ll come across the beach that will require you to pay and there you will find a snack bar. Walk further and you will come to an cute park perfect for birthday parties. (There are a few parking spaces near that end of the park, but they are almost always full and it is a hassle to get in and out of that parking lot). Even though the snack bar is good for drinks and ice cream, I’d suggest taking your own food, eating, and taking a nap in the shady sunshine. If you go to the beach, it is very shallow at the end toward the big parking lot and you can walk into the lake with your shorts on. Have fun!

We went to Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland, California. Joaquin Miller was an American Poet and Frontier Man. He was nicknamed the "Poet of the Sierras" (after the Sierra Nevada. At the park one can see his cabin. This area was a haven for artists. There is a section of the park one can walk to see various statues such as the Status of Joaquin Miller on his horse. There are several trails to hike such as the Geologic Discovery Trail. There are picnic tables. Its a very nice park in the Oakland Hills. In the Summer time there is summer theater at the Woodminster Outdoor Theater.

Like all the regional parks in Oakland, this is a beautiful wild space. As a woman I have not felt comfortable here alone, but I love to hike here with my friends.
