The Kugluktuk Visitor Heritage Centre is a two-story building in the shape of a traditional copper ulu, or knife. The museum is in the part of the building that represents the blade; in the handle are two conference rooms and the art gallery. The Kugluktuk Heritage Visitor Centre showcases other fine artworks from this area, including igloo carvings and handmade Inuit dolls.
I love museums and have never seen one quite like this. Right from the design of the building (in the shape of an Illu), everything is created to celebrate Inuit culture. The Centre is full of beautiful artifacts, many of which are handcrafted. The woman who helped me on my visit was so kind and answered every question I could ask. She was so excited I had chosen to visit Kugluktuk as part of my graduation trip and was so patient with me taking my time in the gift shop (which is full of art and crafts made by local Inuit artists). All in all, it was a great experience and definitely something to check out on your visit to Kugluktuk.
