Noumea, on the island of Grand Terre, is the capital of the French territory of New Caledonia. The peaceful port city has a diverse population and colorful European architecture, reflecting its colonial history. Having served as the headquarters of the US Army during WWII, the tropical shrubbery of Ouen Toro Mount is now under the protection of abandoned Naval guns. The Michel Corbasson Zoological and Forest Park offers visitors shaded walks amongst rare birds and views out over the lagoon.

We can’t think of a better place for an evening meal. Situated over the water at the left end of Anse Vata, this is a perfect place for tapas and drinks while you watch the sun go down. The tapas menu has enough to keep you interested and there’s pizza as well. We found that four tapas items were enough for two. Service was excellent and the views superb. 6300 CPF = NZ$94 for two incl drinks

When in Nouméa, this is the perfect place for a great cocktail. They are well made and service is exceptional. The bar overlooks Anse Vata Bay, and is truly lovely, and very cool for the island. Many an aperitif before dinner enjoyed.
