The Washington & Old Dominion Trail

We love this path for bike riding and the addition of goats to help clear things without chemicals is so nice. It can get crowded but you can definitely get in a great ride and stop for food. magnolias at the Mill makes a great stop!

Mount Vernon Trail

Reviewed By F5397HBchristinel - Grand Rapids, United States

As an avid runner, this is one of my most favourite trails in the US. I've traveled from NYC to San Francisco and run many rail trails in between, but the Mount Vernon Trail holds a special piece of my heart. It's beauty and ease of use can't be beat. It's a popular trail, so there are usually other runners on it, but not so many that it feels crowded; just enough to make this solo female runner feel safe. It has a varied terrain which is nice, but if you start up at Mount Vernon the trail is mostly downhill, which makes for a fun out and back run. Alternatively, you can start at Mount Vernon and run to King Street which would be great for a long run (it's about 9ish miles). Overall, it's a great trail and perfect for any type of runner or walker and the view along to Potomac is incredible.

Bull Run - Occoquan Trail

Reviewed By heatherf929 - Manassas, United States

We enjoyed a wonderful fall hike along Bull Run. We parked at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park in Clifton and took the yellow blaze trail. It's a beautiful walk through the woods down to Bull Run (stream), then followed the blue trail along the water. We turned off the blue trail to loop back along the yellow blazes to the trailhead. It's was a couple of miles with beautiful fall trees and a lovely walk along the water. We did the hike with our three children, and it was not strenuous. At the end of the hike, we walked over to Paradise Springs Winery, where we enjoyed a picnic lunch and a lovely bottle of wine. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon!

Riverside Park

Reviewed By csserious - Chantilly, United States

Located just minutes from Mt. Vernon by the river, what impressed me is a long trail sandwiched between the Potomac and GW parkway. I would say its lot more refreshing to gaze at the river and small waves than a regular trail amid just trees would offer. Parking is easy and free, but it will fill up quickly on warm days. There are benches to sit and enjoy the scenery after a long walk. Highly recommended.

Lake Accotink Trail

Reviewed By psujmu - Springfield, United States

I walk the dog and access from the West Springfield Little League Entrance which has good parking. The trail is wide and nicely paved here an easy terrain all the way to Accotink Park. It's good for families, dog walking, biking and crosses or follows the stream for much of the trail. There are unpaved side trails that follow the stream that, are lightly travelled but enough that the trails are worn in. It's about an hour for most to walk to Lake Accotink and back from the Little League fields.
