Things to do in Northern Norway, Northern Norway: The Best Night Tours

December 4, 2021 Florencio Paulino

Home to both the midnight sun (with constant daylight from April to July) and the northern lights, North Norway is a rugged land of steep mountains, deep fjords and scenic coastline, making it a great place for outdoor adventures like dog sledding, snowmobiling and wildlife safaris. It's also the ancient home of the Sami people, 3,000 of whom live (along with 100,000 reindeer) at Kautokeino, Norway's largest municipality at over 3,700 square miles.

The perfect tour for Aurora lovers. This is a very dynamic excursion perfect for those who want to “chase” the Northern Lights. This 5-hour evening tour offers the experience of a narrative guide and professional photographer, and when the aurora will appear he’ll be able to capture the magic on camera. With the help of your guide, a professional photographer, you will also learn how to set up your camera and tripod (tripods available; let your guide know in advance) to capture the Northern Lights and take some unforgettable photos against a backdrop of the windswept bays, glassy lagoons, and looming peaks of the remote Lofoten archipelago. All the pictures taken by us, will be sent the day after without any additional cost

We reached Svolvær on a very bad weather , it was raining and cloudy weather in December and I had booked 2 day photography tour with Lofoten Lights. My wife and I were worried on missing out on places in Lofoten as we had only 2 days with us. Next day we got picked up by Eric for our tour,he is a very warm and very friendly guide. He started out our tour by taking to a mirror art installed next to the mountain landscape it was very good, in 2 days he covered all the places which are listed in tour ,he is extremely knowledgeable ,he gave us so many facts,he is an amazing photographer and each and every framing of shots is very good.Even though it was a bad weather he made sure that we waited for getting good light and then he helped us taking many memories in form of photos . We will definitely come back in summer and book a photography tour with Lofoten lights for Eric our guide. He is very professional and an awesome tour guide.

We saw the lights beginning of Feb 2020, and due to very bad weather conditions around Tromso, we ended up crossing the Finnish border. Bart was a great guide and did his best to make the tour unforgettable. The spot he picked was fantastic (frozen lake!) and we were lucky enough to see a mesmerising Aurora display that night. We also had some delicious soup and hot chocolate by the camp fire to warm up. Couldn't be happier!

There is something magical about seeing the northern lights in the sky, the colors and its movement. Sailing in a boat is a fast way to do it, in one of the best short cruises, leaving Tromsø city center: you will have a different perspective of the city, with beautiful views of the Northern Lights. We sail north or south, accordingly to the weather forecast and where the possibility of seeing northern lights is higher. We sail in a very cozy boat, with space outside and inside if you get cold just get inside and warm yourself with free tea, coffee and biscuits! You can also relax in our outdoor jacuzzi, under the northern lights or in the sauna onboard (subject to boat availability.) Our guides can also help you setting the definitions of your camera to better photograph the northern lights. If you think you might get seasick, please bring sea-sickness medicine with you and take it half an hour before the trip starts.

Inclusions: Thermal winter suit and life jacket, Restroom on board, Hot coffee, water, tea and biscuits, Short presentations and explanations about the northern lights phenomena, Possibility to use jacuzzi/ sauna onboard (subject to boat availability), Northern Lights Guarantee - Didn't see the lights? Re-book free! (subject to availability)

I had a very nice and informative tour aboard Aurora explorer ferry in summer 2020. The ferry goes all the way to Å, stopping over the small villages along the lofoten. I think traveling by sea offers special view to these islands and I was thoroughly amazed by the sights. The ferry has free tea and coffee with some other refreshments and alcohol on demand. Totally recommend for people who have short stay and want to capture as much of the sights as they can in a day or two.
