This is a truly arresting piece of modern sculpture hovering over Abingdon Street Northampton rather like the giant double scimitars announcing the main entrance to central Baghdad. But this sculpture by Lynn Cunningham commemorates local boy Francis Crick one of the two discoverers of DNA. It is supposed to represent its double-helix construction but instead resembles Australia’s latest Eurovision entry in the shape of two near naked ladies on stilts. Perhaps it tells us of a drug-induced Crick as a student experimenting with drugs and twin disco divas.
