***Please book your visit in advance via the website to guarantee availability. The gardens, restaurant for takeaway drinks, toilets, play area and parkland are open for local visitors to exercise in. The hall, galleries and shop remain closed.*** Inspired by his Grand Tour, John Bourchier created Beningbrough; an Italian Palace nestled between York, Harrogate and Leeds. A working walled garden, grand herbaceous borders, sweeping lawns and a play area for children to let off steam, creates a year round garden. RHS Chelsea Gold Award winner Andy Sturgeon is working with the garden team to transform the gardens and so far they've created the ha-ha walk with 300,000 spring bulbs and the Pergola. Further developments currently paused so the Mediterranean Garden is sown with wildflower seeds to add colour and interest for nature and visitors alike. The restaurant uses the daily harvest in their menus with a selection of takeaway option for your refreshments.

Contemporary art gallery and coffee in a converted chapel in the heart of Wensleydale. Offering work from local artists as well as workshops and drop in sessions in all kinds of arts and crafts.
What a lovely place. We were able to browse the arts and crafts from local artists then had an excellent coffee while enjoying a chat with the owner. Definitely worth a visit. Lots of lovely crafts which would make great gifts.

We passed this gallery several times on our way to and from our hotel. Fascinated by the surreal style of this artist, we finally ventured inside to see more. Based on local scenes, this artist offers alternative and amusing insights into nearby views. You can see something different every time you study her work. Excellent!

York Art Gallery has recently reopened following an £8m redevelopment. There is now 60% more exhibition space in which to showcase the gallery's most famous Victorian, Modern and Contemporary works including pieces by Walter Sickert, Sir Stanley Spencer, David Bomberg, Paul Nash, David Hockney, Sarah Lucas and Henri Fantin-Latour. The gallery's collection of Italian Old Masters is displayed alongside substantial new research which is complimented by loans from major public collections. York Art Gallery is now also home to the new Centre of Ceramic Art (CoCA) which is housed in two new spaces created within York Art Gallery - the mezzanine level in the original Victorian Roof Void and a newly built gallery above the Madsen Galleries. Together they make up 450m squared of exhibition space.

Step inside Van Gogh's mind and works. Sit back in a deckchair and enjoy over 200 of his artworks, animated and projected onto the walls of the former church in a 35 minute show with stunning soundtrack. Plus, see a vase animated with his floral paintings, create your own masterpiece and have it projected onto the wall, or for £3 more, spend the day with Van Gogh in an 11 minute VR experience.
I saw this advertised on Ticketmaster and as huge Van Gogh fans decided to take a chance as we were on a trip to York at the time! Very different to what I expected but thoroughly enjoyable! Sitting in an old church being totally immersed in Van Gogh's artwork while hypnotic music and inspirational quotes are projected was amazing! Not sure about the deckchairs but found a nice bench at the top of the hall from which you could see everything! This is not for you if you want to look at static Van Gogh paintings, it is very different, even psychedelic but really mesmerising If you also invest a further £3 then the VR experience is also great fun! Loved it! If you love Van Gogh and are up for something new then definitely give this a whirl!
