This game reserve is amazing, we stayed at two different camp sites on our holiday and found the wildlife encounters to be spectacular , close up to Leopards,Lions, Elephants, plus wonderful birdlife etc. One evening a male elephant strolled past our tents only a matter of 10 metres away, totally ignoring us as he walked past!

Khwai Concession

Reviewed By candmgoplaces - Kyoto, Japan

Visited with Sango safari camp in late December, and had some fantastic sightings including large groups of elephants, lions (including some that had climbed a tree which was pretty crazy), wild dogs, and an absolutely beautiful group of denning hyenas with their pups (easily 15+ of them). The denning hyenas have dug a spot right in the middle of the road so you're able to get really close to them (some of the pups were even gnawing on a tire of one of the trucks) and we've heard they're there pretty much every year (unless something gets really off with the weather one year) so they are really amazing to check out. The park is really green this time of year so would recommend a guide to support your spotting and also so they can coordinate with the guides from the other camps. The cars are able to go off-road here which helps as well in the rainy season so that you can get closer to the sightings when you do find them.

CARACAL Biodiversity Center

The CARACAL World of Wildlife offers an unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Botswana's lesser-known, less often encountered, and often poorly understood wildlife. Conservation education is at the heart of everything we do. Our collection is made up of a range of creatures that have been injured or orphaned, and although we do rehabilitate and release these animals, this is not always possible due to the severity of their injuries. We take this bad situation and try to get something positive out of it by providing a high quality of life and inducting these animals into our ambassador program. In this way, these animals become ambassadors for their respective species, offering not just the chance to encounter one of them, but also to learn all about their stories and the roles they fulfill in Botswana's vibrant ecosystems. Our collection includes Botswana's largest collection of endemic snakes, small mammals, raptors, owls, and a few endangered species too. Each year we host thousands of school children from across the country, thousands of foreign tourists, wildlife officers, policy-makers, officials, locals and others. Our offering is unique, informative, family friendly, affordable, and not to be missed.

The sanctuary does very nice work, rehabilitating injured or orphaned animals/birds/reptiles. I visited the sanctuary by myself and there are two types of visit: the standard or “enhanced” visit ($5 or $7), I opted for the enhanced tour and I really enjoyed it. My personal guide took the time to show me all the animals, explain about the animals’ habitat and history. You can interact with animals like the honey badger and tree squirrel etc. They also do a lot of educational work with the local community and I highly recommend visiting if you like animals and you’re in the area.
