The Urban Winery

Urban Winery with barrels, concrete egg shaped tanks and cellar door. Wine bar and function center situated in historic art deco National Tobacco Factory

Reviewed By LynleyJ44 - Christchurch, New Zealand

Stumbled across the Urban Winery on way to the 4square. Tucked away in an almost industrial area next to the Art Deco tobacco factory it is well worth checking out. We sat on stools at the bar and sampled some fabulous local wines. Food platters are also available and while we didn’t have one, others were and they looked great. Staff very knowledgeable on the different wines.

Matisse Wine Shop and Bar

Come along our little oneway street to enjoy pre-dinner drinks, a night cap or dinner itself. We serve artisan cocktails, local beers and ciders, but wine is our true passion! We have wines from all over the world and a great selection of NZ independent producers, including organic, biodynamic and natural wines. We are always happy to tell the stories of wines and the people who make them, because we know and love them. We believe in the joy of sharing wine, food and great moments among friends. That’s why our food menu designed around sharable platters and tapas. We also operate as a wine shop, so you can always take your favourite wine with you

The Wine Bank

We are a wine tasting bar and wine retailer, offering 64 wines to taste or drink by the glass. We specialise in local Wairarapa wines but include other varieties from around New Zealand. Open 7 days, perfect for finding your new favourite wine or trying something new.

Reviewed By WayneN795 - Sydney, Australia

The Wine Bank situated in the square at Martinborough is a self serve, pay as you go wine tasting room. The wine bank offers self serve to about 60 different vineyards/varieties of wine. When you enter the wine bank, approach the counter and swap your credit card for a wine bank card. The wine bank card records how much $ value if wine you have tasted while visiting the bank. The wine bank also offers the purchase of gourmet platters to have while tasting the wines. The serving of each wine comes in 3 sizes and you are charged according to the amount you consume. The wine is expensive in this format, but you do get to taste many wine from different vineyards at the same location. We enjoyed getting into some of the Pinot Noirs. Dry River, Craggy Range, Escarpment, Schubert, ATA Rangi, Te Awa just to name a few. Great concept!
