Insights Air Range is a friendly all-year, all-weather, 10-metre, 12-lane indoor range for air rifles under 12 ft lbs and air pistols under 6 ft lbs. Safe shooting is our top priority. Shooting lanes are supervised by fully trained Range Conducting Officers (RCO) who are on hand to offer safety advice or training, should the need arise. We have several different targets (drop down, bells, cans...) as well as paper targets, perfect for zeroing your gun. All 12 shooting lanes are equipped with their own dedicated target retrieval system. Most shooting disciplines are available. The range has something for everyone, whether you are a serious shooter, or just want a bit of occasional plinking. Visitors are always welcome at Insights Air Range.
Having been a keen backyard shooter in my youth, once the opportunity to make limited excursions during the pandemic arose, I wondered how I would fare having not shot on a range in some 24 years. Cue, Google search! Typing in "air rifle range near me", Insights Air Range was the first on the list and lo and behold less than a mile away! Unfortunately all this was "after hours" on a Saturday but thinking the owners would respond on the Monday, I left a message on their website. Within 10 minutes Didier, responded, gave me details and the next morning I was booked in for 2 hours. Yes they're open 7 days a week! Result! On arrival, all the pandemic measures were adhered to. I arrived and called to let Didier know I had arrived and he came out and took me through their protocols; hand sanitiser station, goggles and then introduced me to Stu who then took me through to the range. Usually they operate up to 12, 10m lanes but in order to keep the 2m distancing, these are now limited to only 4 at any one time with 2 stations between each open lane. Masks are optional and whilst I went in with good intentions, once I saw the set up and the other shooters adhering to the new rules, when my glasses started to steam up because of the mask, my fears were substantially allayed, the mask was removed for the duration of my shoot and I just popped it back on once I'd finished shooting. If you bring your own rifle, Didier and Stu go through the process of weighing your pellets and testing the Energy Downrange to check the legal requirements of compliance. Otherwise you will fire one of their Walther Rotex RM8 air rifles which are fitted with bi-pod, scope and silencer. This testing was relatively quick and I would say within 5 minutes I was sending pellets down the range and 2 hrs flew by with me reminiscing about my youth in a garden. To sum up, Didier and Stu are two very amiable people who are very passionate about shooting and their business. They are both shooters themselves and are happy to give advice and during this time of uncertainty, their setup is remarkably good. At the end of each shoot, each station is wiped down with disinfectant as are the weapons (if you have used one of theirs) and to minimise any physical contact, payments for your time are by bank transfer so you don't run the risk of card to machine to card transmission of the virus. Overall very impressed and recommend to any and all who want to shoot or get into air shooting. I look forward to being on the range again within the week.
