Gorge of the River Allen with ornamental and ancient woodland Take a walk on the wild side at Allen Banks and Staward Gorge, one of the largest areas of ancient woodland in Northumberland. This extensive area of gorge and river scenery, including the 41-hectare (101-acre) Stawardpeel Site of Special Scientific Interest, has miles of waymarked walks through ornamental and ancient woods. Largely created by Susan Davidson, Allen Banks has become a fantastic home for flora, fauna and fungi. It is also well known for its carpet of bluebells and ramsons, commonly known as wild garlic, which covers the woodland floor in spring and early summer. Look out for the remains of a medieval pele tower and a reconstructed Victorian summer-house - and with over 70 species of birds spotted at Allen Banks as well as a wide range of wildlife you are never alone. All of the woodland area sits within the North Pennines AONB.
29/5/20 visited today not too busy £2 entry fee. New bridge as the older rickety one has been taken away. Did the circular walk and most people social distancing !! Take a snack and drink if you’re planning on staying for a bit as the little take away shop no longer there. There is a toilet which wasn’t too bad if you ignore the flaky paint ???? it was clean enough and had loo roll and free to use at the farmhouse. Lots of people enjoying the sun and a splash in the river, a great day and would return. Not much changed in the last 45 years or so, still a lovely spot.

I go to Chopwell Woods maybe about once a month, and I always choose a new route as there are so many to choose from. There are plenty parking spaces, benches and it's a huge woods to go to! I'd recommend it to any family or person who wants a peaceful walk

We are one of the largest climbing centres in the UK. We cater for all aspects of climbing, from bouldering and low walls for children, to a massive 23m lead climbing wall and overhang. there is something for everyone, those with experience and those who are new to climbing. We offer a variety of induction courses ,children's birthday parties and corporate events.
My daughter absolutely love this place, she attends rock monkeys, the staff are lovely very knowledgeable and instruction is top notch. I feel confident that my daughter is learning to climb safely and wearing kit that is correct sized. I have bought my daughter a lot of the things needed and found the instructors invaluable in saying what kit to get first. Really rate this place

Decided to pop along one morning instead of using the caravan site pool and wasn't disappointed. The service was great at reception. Clean and tidy changing rooms with plenty of choice and lockers. The pool was clean and warning was given of when the waves were coming which was great as our daughter is still learning to swim and very nervous, the kids pool with pirate ship and slides was great and really helped with her confidence as she was having so much fun, we then moved onto play in the waves which was great. My husband had so much fun as well he was exhausted and when he attempted to lie on the side of the pool a lifeguard checked he was okay! Well worth a visit.

This was our first visit to Wentworth Leisure Centre and our first bowling, the gentleman on duty was very kind and helpful. He was great with my autistic son and explained everything very well, I haven't been bowling for a long time so was a bit rusty. The games were great fun, the venue was clean and warm and the whole trip was great fun. going back again next week!!! Thanks
