We’d been to High Force some years ago, so this time we headed to Low Force. We parked at Bowlees Visitor Centre. Parking there is pay and display and the ticket machine issues a ticket on receipt of your donation. There is a suggested donation depending how long you wish to stay. There is a small amount of free parking in a lay by on the road. From the car park you can walk across past the visitor centre and over the road, cross a field and through a small wooded area to see Low Force. You can cross a suspension bridge and walk to High Force, but we didn’t. We returned to the car park and from there found our way to Summerhill Force and Gibson’s Cave. It is a bit of a climb on some quite deep steps but well worth the effort.

The number of times we have seen this structure on TV has made it an iconic view of Newcastle. To see it first hand and stand underneath brings it home how huge and impressive it is. So well maintained

Lovely views and scenery with a short Woodlands walk to the Arch. Alongside Tanfield Railway (the world's oldest railway) longer walks through the woods after the Arch and a must for people interested in photography

Came here waiting for our friends to finish 'Run The Wall' event from Carlisle to Gateshead. A wonderful curved design, well worth a stroll over this bridge and looks fantastic all lit up at night. There are also some good cafes, bars and restaurants along the Quayside.

We rode the Metro from Monument to Gateshead across the blue Metro Bridge. We then enjoyed a stroll across the High Level Bridge back to the Newcastle side of the river. Great views of the other bridges from the High Level Bridge, particularly of the Swing Bridge and also of the Art Deco towers of the iconic Tyne Bridge. The Newcastle Castle Keep is near the Newcastle end of the High Level Bridge.

With chains based on ships rigging this was built by a retired naval officer. It costs half as much as a stone bridge and is the oldest vehicle carry suspension bridge in Europe. A Toll House stood on the English side. Robert Stephenson attended the opening in 1820 and Isambard Kingdom Brunel made a special visit to study it when he was eighteen years old. In 1902 it was strengthend with two extra cables, otherwise it has not been changed. It will shortly close for a multi-million pound restoration.

We visited Berwick on Tweed and took in the stunning view of the border bridge from the Ramparts. Recommend a visit while you are in the area.
