The fresco of Jesus with children is touching and so very appropriate considering that the Chapel is located in the Crossnore School campus. Crossnore School houses students from babies to age 21. These fine young people who have had a difficult beginning in life live and are schooled here. When we visited there a little boy riding his bike stopped to ask, “ How do you like our church?” Lovely and loving place.

This is a beautiful, small, outdoor chapel with an amazing mountain view. It is free and parking is easy. Limited hours that are open to the public, so check website before you drive all the way out. Great to combine this with the free overlook at Ceasar's Head State Park.

The other "half" of the two frescos by Ben Long. The other being in Glendale Springs not too far away. Very peaceful and open 24 hours a day. Please take the time to understand the difference between frescos and paintings. These are NOT paintings which makes them more difficult to produce.

We took a late Fall Trip, traveling towards Boone, NC & the Blue Ridge Parkway hoping to see the gorgeous leaf colors we'd heard so much about. Soon, we learned from the locals that a storm had stripped the trees of most of their leaves but not the Oaks. They stood proud & regal, cloaked in all their glory - russet, orangey, yellow, & reddish hues, dotting the landscape. Then, the road beckoned & off we went to West Jefferson's Cheese Factory then onward to Holy Trinity Church in Glendale Springs to see Ben Long's Fresco of "The Last Supper." What a delight! We sat for a while, just reveling in the awe-inspiring beauty of our Lord & His Disciples captured, a moment reflected in a life size work of art. Reflection .... yes, we found the TRUE COLORS. Amen

I've never been to such a welcoming parish. And even if you're not in the market for a religious experience don't miss the historic cemetery or the outdoor chapel and labyrinth.

As a newcomer to the city, I was eager to see the Basilica of St. Lawrence and was not disappointed. It is a gorgeous little church situated on a hill nestled by the mountains surrounding Asheville. In many respects it brought back memories of the older, elegant churches of the northeast U.S. and Europe with its Spanish Renaissance façade and jewel like interior. However, one of the most intriguing aspects of the basilica is that it was designed by Rafael Guastavino, the architect and builder of Spanish origin who built and designed many national landmarks, including Grand Central Station, the Great Hall of Ellis Island, Carnegie Hall, etc. To see his awe inspiring, resplendent tile work throughout the church is to be taken back in time to when such handiwork was prized and cherished. For anyone of a spiritual bent or who just wants to bask in the glory of architectural genius, this church should not be missed!

The Cathedral of All Souls is an Episcopal church where all are welcome, trust is present, and risks are taken. We are the Cathedral church of the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina. Find more about us, including regular service times, more info about our history and worship services, and a listing of upcoming events on our website.
A beautiful, sacred, yet intimate place. The best part of it: The organ, its acoustics, and -- most of all -- the Cathedral's canon, Kyle Ritter. What an amazing musician! Each time a revelation to hear him produce heavenly music, from Bach to Mozart to lesser known composers like Hovhaness et al. An experience not to be missed when in Asheville, as resident or visitor.
