I fell in love with Vietnam on a one-time trip. Not because of its islands, not because of its famous bridge, not because of its nature. I fell in love with this country because of the good and kind people of Vietnam. Of course, Vietnam has very beautiful islands.

I did the tour with my group of students as part of an educational excursion from university and was supposed to be the last experience of our trip. It was in March 2019. The drive from Hanoi to the harbor was around 2h30. Arriving at the harbor we saw that a lot of hotels were being built and construction work everywhere. The boat: Since our group was 17 people we had the tour boat exclusively for us. The boat was a bit old school but it was all clean. It has an inside room with benches and tables and an outdoor deck with benches as well. It was enough room and enough space to relax. The two restrooms on board were clean too. The tour: The tour started right at the appointed time and on board we got briefed by the staff on what we are going to do. On the way to the bay we were given a multi course sea food lunch. It was just delicious, I felt like being in a high class restaurant. Usually I don't like seafood but this lunch made me definitely change my mind. The food was also cooked on board. After lunch the boat already arrives at the bay and you could go on the roof deck of the boat and take pictures. Even though the weather was not that clear it was pretty scenic. After some time we stopped at Sung Sot and visited a beautiful cave. There is a pretty long walkway leading through the cave and its all artificially lighted, at the end you arrive at a viewpoint where you have a stunning view over Sung Sot. They gave us like 45min for the cave and then we returned to the boat. On board, our teacher first had to argue a bit with the tour guide to still visit the second destination included in our tour. (the tour guide had the opinion it was already too late and we should return). At the end we won the argument and went to our second destination, which was a dock with a kayak rental and a bamboo boat tour. The dock was crazily crowded, and we had to fight our way through the crowd to the rental. We all rented a kayak and went through a small water cave to a small bay at the other side. It was amazing! We had a small water battle and got all drenched, had so much fun. Back at the boat we changed clothes one at a time at the boats restroom and returned back. Our tour guide was a bit of a pretty nervous dude and tried to stress around (not in a rude way, he still was very friendly) but our teacher managed to calm him down. He seemed like he wants to do his best, but nobody likes to be stressed around on vacation. Also I have to mention that it is sad that such a beautiful place is so ruined by mass tourism. On the boat to the bay, at least 10 other tour boats crossed us. The Sung Sot cave was pretty busy too, but terribly overcrowded was the kayak rental dock. It felt like being at a fairground at friday night. Also the water was polluted. Its all too much commercialized. conclusion: Ignoring the fact of mass tourism and the small argument on board it was an excellent tour. The kayak, the seafood lunch, the landscape and maybe the cave, a nice experience after all! date of experience: march 2019
