Things to do in Newcastle upon Tyne, England: The Best Bars & Clubs

February 6, 2022 Osvaldo Hartline

Once a shipbuilding city, Newcastle's flashier claim to fame is nightlife. Throw in a heap of premium restaurants serving foods from all over the world and it's no wonder young partiers choose to blow their hard-earned (or not-so-hard-earned) cash in Newcastle. While these amenities are certainly a draw for the hipsters and culture-seekers, it's the locals that make Newcastle a truly special place to visit. "Geordies," as they are often called, embody the pride, industriousness and resilient spirit of their city.

I attend the monthly burlesque shows which are always a brilliant night out, I often pop in for a couple of drinks at the start of a evening / dinner in town and I’m always served by brilliant staff and the bar has a lovely atmosphere. There is two levels so ideal for a private party upstairs. Decor is great and you do feel like you have traveled back in time. It’s a proper gem of a bar, right in the city centre. Well worth a visit! X

The Strawberry

Reviewed By MSDerbyshire - Derbyshire, United Kingdom

We had a one night flying visit from 150 miles away to the area and popped in for a drink. Our son’s ashes are at St James Park, and we “visit” him every couple of months. This time was the 12th anniversary of his death. We usually go into Nine, but it’s still closed. It was a nice day and as we came out of the carpark we noticed outdoor tables here, so decided to have a quick toast to our son. The gentleman who checked us in took our details for track and trace, then we went to sit outside. It’s all table service, so he came out to take our order. He was really friendly and welcoming. We later had a coffee served by a lady who was equally lovely. We were very impressed with the way they’ve adapted, and loved being able to sit outside overlooking our son’s resting place. We shall look forward to popping in again when we’re next up there in October.
