New Zealand (/njuːˈziːlənd/ ( listen); Māori: Aotearoa [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses—the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui), and the South Island (Te Waipounamu)—and around 600 smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long period of isolation, New Zealand developed a distinct biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland.

Looking for something to do in Queenstown for the family? Hold on to your seats, we’re taking you back to the beginning on a journey through time and legend! Head down under the Main Town Pier and travel back to a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth, learn about how Lake Wakatipu was carved out by a giant glacier and experience the adventure activities you can do in Queenstown, all from the comfort of your seat. Time Tripper is a state-of-the-art animated show that takes you on a journey through time and legend, where you experience 90 million years in under 30 minutes. The show is approximately 12 minutes long, with 10-15 minutes of underwater viewing available after the show, where you can see the diving ducks, slinky eels and rainbow & brown trout.
This is a very cool experience, especially for the price. You get a quick journey back in time and a snapshot of how NZ and Queenstown looked as far back as 80-90 million years ago by watching a semi-surround movie. Then the screens roll up and you are confronted with huge eels and trout and the odd diving duck. You can go right up and stand beside them.

Alpaca Farm Experience - Bookings essential. Enjoy a short walk through beautiful, lush, green typical New Zealand bush to come out into a paddock with friendly alpacas. Hand feed these amazing animals and hear all about their breeding cycle and their beautiful soft fleeces. See and touch some of last year's fleeces exactly as they were shorn from the animal. See how a fleece looks and feels after it has been washed and carded. Finally, see a scarf that has been made by felting this luxurious fibre onto pure silk fabric. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions about these gentle animals with their huge eyes and long eyelashes. For those of you interested in vintage cars, you can see a 1922 Stanley Steamer. Details are on our website. We also offer self-contained accommodation at one end of our eco friendly home so you can spend as much time as you like with these unique animals.
We had a fantastic fun and educational morning with Mark, Pav and their alpacas. We had a number of children aged 1-6yrs who loved learning about various native trees, enjoyed seeing how an old steam car works and LOVED feeding the alpacas and learning what happens to their fleece. Mark and Pav were so knowledgeable, accommodating and sweet. If you’ve got a baby you’ll need a carrier and there’s no signage from the main road but google maps led us straight there. Pack some water and snacks and enjoy a couple of hours in alpaca paradise.

We visited on recommendation and enjoyed watching our boys play with outside toys/cubby house and feeding animals. I sat on a lounge in the covered pergola shade feeding my baby. We could pat bunnies and fed the animals. Even the play zone was partially shaded. Kiosk sells animal food $1 and ice creams etc. Even had a toddler sized toilet. Thanks!

Cantharis Alpacas is one of the larger alpaca farms in the lower North Island being located on the majestic Kapiti Coast, just 40 kms North of Wellington. We are open for pre-arranged farm visits and walks, please check our website for more information and opening times.
Rob was a fantastic host and clearly passionate and caring about his Alpacas! We had a lovely time cuddling with the herd and exploring the beautiful sights of the valley initially, with some spectacular views out to Kapiti Island and the South Island on the horizon. Definitely one of the most wholesome activities available in the Wellington region.

Auckland Zoo is home to the largest collection of native and exotic animals in New Zealand, set in 17 hectares of lush parkland and just minutes from central Auckland. Auckland Zoo is open every day (except Christmas Day) from 9.30am.
I have seen already several ZOOs around the world and this one is one of my favourite. Besides that you can see some rare animals like red panda, or kiwi bird ( where else ????), it is also visible, that they really take care and love those animals there. Currently there is freshly born small red panda and zebra. Recommended not only for kids, but for everyone who likes animals.

Absolutely in awe, i have seen animals in Zoos and they do not compare to the size of the animals in this wild life park. The enclosures were ginormous which let the animals freely move around. The Giraffes, Yaks, Buffalo, Lions, Tigers, Spider Monkeys, Gorillas, Orangutans, Cheetahs, Meerkats even the Turtles just seemed closer, bigger, more interactive and available to see. I feel like we must have come at the perfect time because we saw everything, my son loved the silver back, didn't want to leave.

Wellington Zoo is New Zealand’s first Zoo, and Wellington’s oldest conservation organisation, caring for animals since 1906. The Zoo is a not for profit charitable trust and we're proud to be the world’s first carboNZero certified zoo. We are guided by our kaupapa Me Tiaki, Kia Ora! We must look after our environment, so all things will flourish. It is up to us collectively to make a difference for animals and the wild places they call home. See our website for entry prices and to plan your visit. If you have accessibility needs, you can find more visitor information on our website.
Reasonably priced and spot-on size-wise with approachable rangers and a wide range of animal environments this zoo is great in every way for kids. Take a full day and a picnic ( the food is great here but over-subscribed leading to lunchtime queues). There are water-fountains, playgrounds and picnic areas, the animals seem well-cared for and it is a treat for any animal lover. I kept losing the kids I was with but all OK and a measure of how much there is to explore. Roll on tagging!
