The Wanda Gag house is a great place to get the feel for early Minnesota. The Gag family is one of the key artistic families in Minnesota. The birthplace of "Millions of Cats" one of those iconic childhood books. The house is a well preserved and presented representation of life in the Minnesota River valley in the early 1900's. Call ahead to arrange a worthwhile visit. Hours are more limited off season.

This 45-foot, free-standing, musical clock is one of a rare breed.
Chimes and figures that rotate during the performance. The bells ring on the hour and the performance is a couple times in the afternoon. Located in a nice park with lots of benches.

CLOSED for the season til May 2020. Savor the smells and sights of an 1870s general store as you sample the wares or try a game of checkers. When the railroad bypassed the small town of West Newton, the Harkin Store was forced to close with much of the unsold inventory still on the shelves, where it remains today.

A monument to the German Bohemian families who founded New Ulm. New Ulm names like Saffert, Zupfer, Schnobrich, Gag, Domier and Neidecker are etched in the base. A nice tribute to the founding families.

Explore the past at The Kiesling House constructed in 1861; it survived the 1862 Dakota Conflict and is the only wood-framed house from that era remaining in Brown County. Learn about early pioneer settlement, customs and traditions of area immigrants and events, like the Dakota Conflict, that shaped New Ulm.
We paid the $3 admission fee and spent the next 30-45 minutes on a guided tour by a woman who was dressed in 1860s era attire, extremely knowledgable, and an exceptional storyteller. My husband and I considered this a must-stop for those traveling to New Ulm. The tour provides an immense amount of knowledge about the town and its history in a truly unbiased approach. To those who wrote reviews by simply "peering in the windows" -- that is not a valid experience at this museum. It's $3. Pay the measly fee and learn about this exceptional historic site.
