Just across the street from the police station, this cemetery is nice for a quiet walk, local history, and interesting monuments. Today, there were a few other people there enjoying the grounds, including one with a bicycle. Dogs are allowed, and plastic bags for canine waste are available. The roads are made of oyster shells. Paths go in between plots. With the first day of Spring, Parks and Recreation will likely be out and about caring for the grounds. There are some plaques with historical facts, and other information, on them. Both the cemetery, and the Extension (across the street) have mailboxes that may contain brochures, though none were available today. Toward to the center of the cemetery is a monument to Confederate soldiers who died during the Battle of New Bern. Large trees with moss hanging from them lend a cemetery feel. Parking spaces can be found on two sides, and the location is just outside of downtown. The site is reputed to be haunted, and ghost walks are held hear on Halloween. The Extension is still active for burials.

Colonial Governors ruled, legislators debated, patriots gathered and George Washington danced. At Tryon Palace, where British rule once flourished, American independence took root and the state of North Carolina was born. Here you can still experience the adventure of North Carolina’s earliest beginnings and a living history like no other. Guided tours, live re-enactments and conversations with costumed interpreters from centuries past bring history to life in vivid detail at the Governor’s Palace, Gardens and Historic Homes. And, at the new high-tech North Carolina History Center, interactive games and hands-on exhibits delight visitors young and old. Whether you’re exploring one of our riverside gardens or sharpening your skills as a quilter, printer, ship’s captain or blacksmith, there are endless opportunities for making cherished family memories at Tryon Palace.
We bought the ticket that included tours, garden and multiple locations. Beautiful grounds, passionate employees who honor the property and enjoy sharing their knowledge to the visitors. I would recommend planning 3 hours to tour, walk, and discover New Bern’s history.

New Bern did an excellent job of repairing this convention center after the hurricane. We enjoyed being back and look forward to next year.

We have been there a few times now, and each time we appreciate it more. This is the perfect spot for a date, or a family just to spend time together. The views of the river are simply gorgeous, there are usually friendly people all around enjoying the sun. If you are into photography like my son and I, there are ample opportunities to photograph the bridge structures, fish, sea gulls, and so much more all around you.

This soda fountain and Pepsi gift shop is located at the same site where the first Pepsi drink was invented.
Great place to visit, interesting facts found out about the making of the original Pepsi. Easy quick stop.
