We took a day trip to the ghost town and gold mine while we were staying in Vegas and we're so glad that we did. We rented a car on the strip and made the relatively short drive, enjoying views of mountains and desert on the way (nice change of scenery). We were relieved to find that the visitor center/gift shop were nice and cool inside as it was over 100° outside and the woman who was running the place and dog Callie were very welcoming. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining, and we're loved learning about the history of the ghost town and gold mine. After the tour we drove a few miles down the road and went for a swim in the Colorado River. By far our favorite day in Nevada!

Spent the better part of a week with the Otteson guys (Tommy, Danny and Tristan). We learned so much about the business and these beautiful stones! These guys could't have been any more accommodating. My wife and I love to mine/rock hunt. This was our best experience ever!

The Tonopah Historic Mining Park is on the site of Belle and Jim Butler's original mining claim which started the rush to Tonopah making it the "Queen of the Silver Camps." The mining park, encompassing portions of four of the major mining companies and covering 113 acres, preserves this rich history and brings it to life with exhibits of equipment and imaginative self-guided tours. The park also offers a Guided Polaris Tour. The park collects, restores and displays mining artifacts on the site and in the original buildings. Come and visit us at the Tonopah Historic Mining Park, where history comes alive. We are open 7 days a week Summer Hours - 9am-5pm - Winter Hours 8am-4pm, excluding all Federal Holidays.
The town of Tonopah has a colorful history and the Mining park is definitely worth a visit. It is very much a local site but interesting with the displays and the tour of the area. Great to see the town take such pride in it's early days. The curator was friendly and helpful. Interesting local movie which I so enjoy.

This silver lode was discovered in 1859.
So much history in this town of Virginia City, to include historical landmarks such as this one. Fun experience for all ages, not to mention the educational factor.

Located approximately 115 miles northeast of Las Vegas you will find this new addition to our list of National Monuments. It is some 300,000 acres of immense desert beauty offering many unique spots, primitive camping, hiking, and 4wd trails.
