Netanya (Hebrew: נְתַנְיָה, lit., "God gave"; Arabic: نتانيا) is a city in the Northern Central District of Israel, and is the capital of the surrounding Sharon plain. It is 30 km (18.64 mi) north of Tel Aviv, and 56 km (34.80 mi) south of Haifa, between the 'Poleg' stream and Wingate Institute in the south and the 'Avichail' stream in the north. Netanya was named in honor of Nathan Straus of Macy's, a prominent Jewish American merchant and philanthropist in the early 20th century.

This was our first visit to Hamei Ga'ash - or any similar location. There was plenty of parking - but not a paved parking lot. The staff dealt quickly and professionally with a long line of guests (it's August after all!) Towels, robes, slippers and lockers are available at an additional cost. Note: bring your own towels and flip-flops - not to save money - but for quality and convenience. People bring EVERYTHING - food, drink - hampers of everything. The place is open on shabbas so all we bought was packaged ice cream. You can wear tzanuah bathing suits and tichels - both Jewish and Muslim women dress as they wish and are comfortable as are those who don't dress this way. The place is spacious - even when full. Locker and showeroom area is clean and simple. Different indoor and outdoor pools, wet and dry saunas, mineral pools and plenty of lawn area just to lay around and relax are available. There is also a spa with massage area (extra cost). Plastic seating and low tables available everywhere. This is not an exclusive spa - it's open to all, clean and well maintained. Found in the middle of the country and easy to get to. Probably better to visit after the chagim - but worth a visit for a few hours of water relaxation!
