It is that shallow. Good water flow. We rented a couple kayaks and did a four hour float. Time was right on the money. Easy in and out. Beautiful scenery while on the water.

Agate, a national park, is an internationally recognized fossil site.
Get out of your car and hike a bit. This is a great stop. You will enjoy the museum which is well-curated and intersting. There is a native American exhibit and a fossilized mamals exhibit. You will surely enjoy one or both of them. The short hikes are easy exercise and very enjoyable. You will see fossils and interesting terrain and flora. Spend an hour or two. It is free.

Despite the Visitor Center renovations, please stop in the temporary trailer. The NPS video is an excellent explanation of the historical significance of these Bluffs and of the westward migration. 3 easy hiking trails (1 at base, 2 up top) that all provide excellent views. Be sure to take the drive to the top - its quite easy. Wish I had the time to take the long hike by foot to the summit !

We spent the weekend at the campground and hiked some of the trails. One of the nicest and quietest campgrounds we’ve been too. The spots are nice and big and well maintained. The shower house and restroom facilities are the nicest we’ve seen in a state park. The camp hosts Jerry and Emma were super friendly and inviting. They were eager to share maps and history of the area. We hiked some of the trails and were able to see the wagon ruts from the Oregon Trail wagons and well as many of the reconstructed buildings. The trails were very well maintained. We will be coming back and highly recommend the park. If you like history you’ll thoroughly enjoy spending some time on the trails.

Feel the awe and curiosity the pioneers experienced when they saw the most famous landmark on the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. The Chimney Rock Museum showcases unique items in our collections that tell the story of the most documented landmark of the western trails of the 1800s. Discover why Chimney Rock has fascinated people since before the state of Nebraska was established.
Chimney Rock can look slightly different from various angles. Take pictures from different locations as you approach on the main road.. Excellent Visitor Center. The westward migration of settlers explained very well here thru the exhibits and movie. Helpful staff. Interesting to see how the pinnacle looked thru the years as it has eroded and been struck by lightning. Wish we were present to see the peak lit up at night.
