We stopped here on a road trip that took us through Nebraska, and I wasn't sure what to expect. The gallery is also a museum, and there is TONS to see. It's free to enter, and sometimes the artists might stop in while you're there! There are huge varieties of petrified wood, various species in various forms, plus art made from the petrified wood and sandstone. There is also a whole section of arrow heads and other ancient tools, I've never seen a collection so big! Aside from the arrowheads and petrified wood, there are also displays with fossils and precious stones! More than a few of the finds in the gallery are local as well! The ladies working the gallery are all volunteers and very kind and passionate about their little town. Definitely worth a stop.

Sitting on six acres, the museum’s treasures all reside indoors so they can be enjoyed rain or shine. From the main building with its old-time boardwalk and military memorabilia to the agricultural building’s antiques cars to the working blacksmith shop, prairie schoolhouse, and home of Civil War General Delevan Bates, The Plainsman Museum offers a relaxing and educational journey through yesterday.
They have store fronts inside the building where you can walk down a board walk and look into stores of the past. A great place to spend an afternoon

This museum was on the 2020 Nebraska Passport Tour. This was my second trip to Chadron and my wife's first. The museum is located on the campus of Chadron College. The setting is very nice the area provides wonderful scenery while driving. The museum was small, but very well done. The displays were informative and interesting. While I had heard of Mari Sandoz, I was not familiar with any of her specific works. After visiting, I decided to purchase a copy of Old Jules in the gift shop. Along with the Sandoz displays, they have an area for visiting artists. The artist on display during our visit had artwork related to the area and Native Americans. This display was also enjoyable. What made this visit stand out was the guide working during our visit. She had a wealth of knowledge about the Sandoz family that she graciously shared with us. Her passion for the subject was wonderful. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Just a Very Lovely Campus In May, we were back in Omaha for the Creighton Medical School’s graduation, and once more on their lovely campus. Though the activities were mostly at the Convention Center, we got to walk much of the Creighton property. Even though there had been heavy rains, and the rivers were overflowing a bit, the campus was lovely with the Spring flowers. I still enjoy the architecture, and on every visit, find elements, which I have missed. This is a must-do, whether participating in any activity on-campus, just for the beauty.

Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area, Nature Center and wildlife reserve encompass 1,094 acres of rugged rock buttes and pine-clad canyons south of Gering. Geared primarily for day-use, the recreation area overlooks the North Platte River Valley and historic Scotts Bluff National Monument looms to the northwest. The park features over 4 miles of hiking/biking trails, stone-covered picnic shelters.
They have a nice nature center with displays. A new firing range was just opened for pistols and rifles. Archery and air guns are also available. You can bring your own and they have some rental equipment. Many new picnic tables have been added this Spring throughout the area. Organized programs are frequently offered and the hiking trails will give you a workout.
