Romantic Naples, two hours south of Rome, is the largest city in southern Italy. It has some of the world's best opera and theater houses and is often called an open-air museum, due to its many historic statues and monuments. Join families on promenade as the sun sets on the Bay of Naples. View finds from Pompeii and Herculaneum, destroyed by Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale or revel in the art and architecture of Museo Cappella Sansevero, built in the late 1500s.

If you are a dreamer, or remember in another life your aristocratic life in a millenium mansion this is the place for you. The house looks as is Princess Pignatelli just left it. Her books, her furniture, her pictures and the walls (paintings and souvenirs by camera), the sofas, the plates, the dining room her library: everything is here. Oh, I forgot: her garden, her pants her trees her gorgeous 'strelitzia' bushes (my favorite flower sometimes called oiseau paradis in French). Go everyday there, ask yourself why the bathroom looks upon the stairs with a bay window (- yes, true, why?). Nearby also the good looking carriage museum (most carriages made in Naples, poor guys and industry destroyed by the automotive industry). In the 'curies' (stables) of the princess. Unforgettable.

I was very impressed with how well this exhibit was organized. I was surprised and delighted at all the hands-on activities for adults and kids. Fun and fasciinating. Make sure to get the audio which is also excellent at explaining Escher's progress in art and each of the exhibits.
