From afar, this beautiful old stone bridge, with its arches reflected in the water, resembles a pair of glasses.
The bridge was originally built in 1634, its construction overseen by the Chinese monk who would go on to become the resident priest of Kofukuji Temple, which is located a short walk away. The bridge, along with many of the others along the river, was badly damaged by floodwaters in 1982, but has since been repaired with recovered stones.

This bridge is not an exact copy of the bridge near Megane-bashi tram station, but this is the quieter and more scenic version. Even on a weekend, you can take pictures of the bridge without people walking around. Get-off at Isahaya Station then walk for about 10 minutes. The google map route is a bit dangerous if you are with kids, because it's really at the edge of the roadway traffic! However, this is the easiest way to get to the bridge, otherwise you have to go inside the very large and complicated Isahaya Park. After the bridge if you still have the strength, you can go up at a flight of stairs at the left side, and you can visit a very old 600 year old tree with a vantage view of Isahaya. It is worth the climb, but please be careful, because the stairs are stone slabs and can be slippery on rainy days.

This bridge is just too cool. The views are amazing and I love being able to look down into the water from the windows in the floor of the pedestrian walkway. The area around the bridge is beautiful as well and the Saikai park is just across the road. Well worth a visit.
