Established in the Himalaya foothills by a British Army officer in 1820, the "Queen of the Hills" stands above the rest with its deep woods, favorable climate and Doon Valley views. Its name is derived from the berry-covered Mansur shrub found in abundance around this trekker-friendly area. Vestiges of its colonial past are still reflected in the cuisine and architecture. For stunning natural sights, head to Gun Hill or Childer's Lodge, the two highest peaks, or the famous Kempty waterfall.

Char Dham Yatra is a tour of the four Hindu shrines namely Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. These shrines are located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. This yatra is also called Chota Char Dham Yatra. The holy river Yamuna originates from Yamunotri, Maa Ganga from Gangotri, Mandakani from Kedarnath and Alakhnanda, Saraswati from Badrinath ji. Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva in India which is considered to be the main places of worship of Lord Shiva. The Char Dhams of India are Badrinath, Rameshwaram, Jagannath Puri and Dwarka which were founded by Adi Shankracharya. All Hindus aspire to go to these four shrines once in their lifetime. In simple terms, Char Dham conveys the presence of four sacred abodes. But it has a got a great significance in Hindu religion. Char Dham originally used to refer to a pilgrimage circuit encompassing four holiest sites which were located at four directions of India - Badrinath, Puri, Rameshwaram and Dwarka. They were established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD. A relatively smaller circuit of Hindu pilgrimage is formed by the four hallowed places of Indian Himalayas, which are also known as Chota Char Dham. 'Chota' means small in Hindi. Alternately called Char Dham of Himalayas or Char Dham of Uttarakhand, the revered group possesses four sacred sites - Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri.

Situated approx 12 Kms from Mussoorie & at 7500 feet the temple offers splendid 360 degree views and snow clad Himalayan peaks on a clear sky day. I along with a colleague went up to Clouds End and saw this white marble structure perched at top of the hill in front. We could also see a well laid path going from Dudhli village up to the temple. We were on the bike and covered the entire path throttling the 1st & 2nd gear. The path was steep and last 800 mts approx is loose scree and stones. Undoubtedly I can imagine the thrill of a trek if we would have taken as we found many people going to the temple walking. The temple is dedicated to Lord Balram who stayed at this very place after the Mahabharat war. The devotees offer milk & butter along with prayers and seek blessings. As we undertook this journey randomly we didn't have any offerings nor there were any shops, so we just offered our prayers and felt thankful to the lord for this wonderful visit. The views from this place is awesome and we passed good 30 mins soaking in the surroundings. An annual fair is also conducted here every year in August from 15th to 17th where locals in large number & tourists throng this place. In all it's a wonderful MUST VISIT place to visit and a good trek to undertake. Next time we will trek this path for a more rewarding & thrilling experience.
