Muskegon Winter Sports Complex is a place to get out and active with your family in the winter. With XC skiing, ice skating, sledding, snowshoeing and luge, there's something for every member of the family.
We enjoyed a Scout trip to the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex. While we were there primarily for the luge experience, there was also lots of opportunity to ice skate and cross-country ski. The lodge is also a good place to get warm, and I liked the fire pit in the patio area outside. The luge experience was pretty neat. It is definitely real luging....nothing simulated here! It's fun, but you do get banged up a bit (you WILL hit a wall, LOL!). But, as long as you don't mind that, it's fun. After getting our gear, the start was a bit chaotic, but riders started climbing and then going on the runs, it started to flow better. It does take a while to go through one run...you have to carry your sled up the stairs, and then wait. Since obviously there is only one rider allowed at a time, it's overall about a minute per rider to get set up at top, start down the hill, and reach the bottom...so don't expect a lot of runs. The most folks got in in a 2 1/2 hour period was four runs. This isn't a complaint, it's a reality, and physically can't go any faster..just make sure your expectations are there. The staff member at the top during our visit was fantastic...she was very knowledgeable, and very patient with us beginners! There was also a long wait to purchase passes for the activities; the staff definitely was doing the best they could, but it appeared the payment system was a bit slow, leading to a long wait. Those minor nit-picking things aside, this is definitely a great wintertime activity in the area, and makes for a great destination event, too!
