Moyogalpa (Spanish pronunciation: [moʝoˈɣalpa]) is a municipality in the Rivas department of Nicaragua. Moyogalpa is the largest village and the home of the largest of the three ferry ports on Ometepe Island. There are multiple hotels, hostels, and restaurants on the island, along with small shops called "Pulperias" selling a variety of items from snacks to basic clothing. In 2016, Walmart opened a Pali Supermarket in Moyogalpa to serve the 40,000+ island population, including many expats and the thousands of visiting tourists. Since opening Pali, many of the small pulperias have improved their own meat, produce and items for sale displays, adding many items not offered by Pali.

We went volcano boarding on Cerro Negro.....it’s a pretty small volcano compared to others....we thought it would be easy. It. Was. Not The hike up was treacherous ( wear good sturdy hiking shoes ) and very hot ( until close to the top then extremely windy- which felt good but you really had to be careful and mindful of getting g blown off the trails !) Oh and we ( 3 Ladies in good shape ) could not carry the boards..we paid $1.00 each to the locals to take them up thank GOD. The sliding down was cool,...it is very much controlled by the way you sit and lean which made it not scary at all. It was a 2 minute slide down . We got videos which was cool,..but at the bottom you had to pick up your board and walk quite a ways in the sand to get to the truck that drives you back to the parking lot. The lagoon was so so,....the hike DOWN to that was equally as hard as the volcano . Just different terrain ( dirt, tree roots, rocks and sticks and stones ) it took forever to get down there ..the lagoon is beautiful but you really can’t swim in it. We tried.the bottom is very silty and it gets deep as soon as you walk in. We saw wild horses which was cool also....then the hike back up omg all 3 of us thought we were going to pass out. Very steep and slippery if shoes aren’t excellent for hiking. Long drive back to Leon where we then had to take the chicken bus back to las penitas. It was a very long day. Be prepared ,!
The name Ometepe means ‘two hills’ in the native ‘náhuatl’ language. The island measures 276 square kilometers and it houses two majestic volcanoes connected through a small strip of land. Ometepe is currently one of the destinations admired by both local and international tourists for its nature, hospitality, beautiful landscapes, the two volcanoes, a rich archeological background, relaxing beaches and its numerous natural reserves and forests with high biodiversity. The island is currently inhabited by friendly people who love their territory, dedicated to fishing and high-quality agricultural production which is made possible by the fertile soil. More recently, the ometepinos (inhabitants of Ometepe) have started to attend tourists and nowadays the island houses numerous establishments offering lodging, food, tours, and other services that enable tourists from all over the world to visit and explore this paradise.

My friend and I just went on a full day tour to Apoyo Lagoon Lookout, Masaya, and Mombacho Volcanoes with Julio Flores as our guide. Julio is probably the best tour guide I've ever had. He was early to pick us up, spoke perfect english, was extremely knowledgeable, answered every question we had, took us to an extra place we requested, knew where to find specific food and souvenirs, and most importantly was just so nice and fun to tour with which made this tour a great experience. This is also a well planned package that let's you see several amazing places in one day and is well coordinated with local parks and tour operators. I highly recommend this tour, and Julio as a guide for any tour in Nicaragua.
