Things to do in Møre og Romsdal, Western Norway: The Best Bus Tours

September 23, 2021 Deane Carmody

The most northerly of the Western Fjord counties, More og Romsdal is a land of rich and rugged terrain, including steep mountains, rolling valleys, many islands, some of the country’s longest waterfalls and, of course, the deep fjords that make the area so famous. Geirangerfjord, one of Norway’s most visited fjords, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home to the spectacular Brudesløret (Bride’s Veil) and De Syv Søstrene (The Seven Sisters) waterfalls. Picturesque Alesund is the county capital.

Jendamsfjellet top is 633 m.a.s.l. with an amazing 360 degree view over the fjords and mountains. The first part of the way takes you along the back of the mountain, which is quite steep at some points. There might also be some wet and damp parts, so you need to have good hiking shoes. After around 20 minutes the path will be easier, and you will walk in a forest for a while. After you come out from the forest you will start the steepest part toward the peak. Already at this part you will see some breathtaking views which will be even more spectacular on the top. We will walk with slow pace and take some breaks on the way to rest.

This was my first yoga + hiking retreat and I would definitely book again with Pille - she was such a great yoga instructor and guide too. We started off our days with yoga in the morning, having breakfast together and then setting off for hikes during the day and having a meal together in the evening. It was a very nice routine and where we stayed in Molde was a short walk from the yoga studio so the location was perfect for this. In yoga I had the opportunity to correct my postures and poses and learnt more about the styles and technique. The trip is also a great opportunity to meet other likeminded people and enjoy nature and hikes with new people, I would recommend to anyone looking for a balanced, outdoors trip

(This experience occurred in August 2018, which was not offered in the drop down list.) If you are a photographer, this is the BEST way to see Dalsnibba and the beautiful scenery on the way to the summit. If you take a bus, (1) it doesn't stop and (2) you don't get to experience the sights and sounds of a beautiful place. The day that we went was cold and rainy, and I'll warn you that there's no heater in the electric vehicle. However, the experience was one that I'll never forget or regret. After a short, but informative, orientation at the station, you take off for the summit. I was warned to not punch the accelerator to the maximum on the ascent, as there is enough charge in the battery to reach the summit at a moderate speed, but not full speed (there's a gauge on the dash to advise power usage and storage). The vehicle partially recharges as you coast on the descent.

I really can't say I've got to grips with Norway after my recent Covid secure trip there up the ffjirds on a cruise ship with other sufferers of my particular condition. One small issue is it's always said that all Norwegians speak English but I definitely met several who hadn't a clue what I was talking about when ordering pork chops on one of our excursions inland to Innlanden so that aspect was disappointing. Also I learned that a Smurfasbord is a kind of buffet similar to the English buffet but with fewer items from the yellow food groups such as our much loved crisps and cheese. Mr Gudmunjohansennn the ships croupier talked me through it in impeccable Norwegian so I had to deduce what he was saying from his admirable skill at pointing at things and either smiling or frowning. Was glad to get home to Sharon and normality.
