We owe much of our success to the relationship we have with horses. The horse is an important, an integral part of the Navajo culture. When you’re in the midst of our horses, you’re already participating in our cultural experience. Our horses are well trained, well-fed and receive a lot of love. If you’re a beginner we make sure riding is fun and exciting. Our horseback guides are available sunrise to sunset and will match you with a horse based on your riding experience. We provide horses for the beginner, intermediate and advanced rider. We’ll take you to popular and historic locations. Routes that other tours don’t and can’t provide without horses or hiking. Your horse and guide are waiting for you, book a tour today!
After contacting several horseback riding companies in Monument Valley Joe Atene with Wild West Trail rides responded quickly and everything seemed to fit right. I booked a 2 hr Sunset ride through Monument Valley. No hassle (everything was arranged via email for the ride). My friend and I arrived at the meeting spot "The View Hotel" lobby where we met our guide Herb! Herb is amazing and I can't say enough fantastic things about him!!! We then went to the coral and picked our horse. We had our choice of horses based on our experience and what we wanted to do! They have fast horses, slow horses, mellow horses, crazy horses lol whatever your heart desires they have it! During our 2 hr ride Herb educated us on the surrounding land formations, gave us cool info on medicinal plants, took as many pictures of us as we wanted and made sure we were safe at all times! It was a magical experience and I'm so glad we did not go with a one of the larger companies in the monument. My friend and I had this ride all to ourselves! They aren't a large company but they're the best company. I found them on The View hotel website. Joeatene at yahoo.com

My adult daughter (22, inexperienced rider) and I (40, somewhat experienced rider) took a 3 hour ride on a ridiculously cold and windy day in November, and even though we couldn't feel our toes by the end of the ride, we would both absolutely do it again. In fact we might do it again next fall, and this time spend a night or two camping out and chasing wild horses. Seriously, that's a thing our friendly and informative guide Travis said could be arranged, and while I don't know what the cost will be, I'm pretty sure I'd be willing to pay it. My main point there being that they are very open to customizing the adventure that is right for you, be it 1 hour or 3 days. There's even the chance to sleep in a traditional hogan, if that's what you're into. I've read some of the other reviews that talk about rude guides, or ones that didn't listen or seem to care about the riders safety, but that was the total opposite of our experience. Our guide asked how we were doing several times, and offered us breaks. When we declined a break, he took us to an extra site that would would otherwise have missed. He explained the names of the rock formations, Navajo history and culture, talked about the animals found in Monument Valley, told tales of catching wild horses, and gave a lesson on the plants around us, their uses, and the Navajo traditions. We learned so much more than we ever could have if we had driven ourselves. The only downside that I can really cite is their location fairly far down the drive, all the way to Fords Point. If you've ever driven the road you know what I'm talking about, if you haven't ever driven the road, rent a jeep. My daughter and I made it in a 2019 Dodge Challenger, and I think we'll be lucky if Hertz lets us rent anything above a Chevy Spark in the future.
