St James Silo Art

Reviewed By CorvettePete - Belconnen, Australia

Another wonderful silo in the trail throughout this area. You can easily do 4 towns with silos in a morning. This one had an interesting twist in the story of the Coles family (who started Coles supermarkets). Well worth reading.

Byramine Homestead

Reviewed By A_Land_Sailor - Cleveland, Australia

Came across this beautiful historic building, that is so very interesting to go in, and see the rooms, and sit and listen to the history being told The boutique brewery along side, but far enough away so not to ruin the view of the old building, has fabulous meals at reasonable prices. If you pay the $7.50 to enter the home you can sample 2 of the beers/ciders included in the price. The huge platter for 2 was fantastic. As it was a lovely day it was so relaxing sitting at one of the many tables around the property... Could not find a more relaxed atmosphere than at the historic Byramine Homestead & brewery. Would certainly recommend this place.

Cobram Log Cabin

Reviewed By DrGreyhound - City of Greater Geelong, Australia

In the heart of Cobram in Federation Park beside Woolies sits this remarkable heritage log cabin. Dated back to 1874 when the Toms family arrived in region. A local guide suggested it’s known to be haunted. As I entered on a still warm day, was fairly ‘unlikely’ (guess try dusk with some wind rattling). Quite humbling to view the basic, tight and work-intensive layout of a late 19th century country cabin. Grateful to the early settlers for their amazing fortitude, grit and perseverance to make home in a tough land.

Tungamah Silo Art

In February 2018, Sobrane Simcock became the first female to paint a silo in Australia. She painted dancing bolgas on the concrete silos - there are 3 so make sure you see the brolga on the back of the silo. In 2019, Sobrane added more birds, flora and colour to the steel silo. This now has a Kookaburra (the original) plus a Galah, a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, a Sacred Kingfisher, a Straw Necked Ibis and 2 Blue Wrens all nestled in gum tree foliage and Gum Flowers and the native Billy Button leaves and flowers. North Vic Trails is a Non Profit Community Group consisting of people from small towns. We are trying to help our rural regional towns suffering in the current climate especially after the drought and bushfires and now COVID 19 restrictions. Through promoting the silo art, other artworks and features for small town communities we hope to increase tourism to the northern regions of Victoria. So come visit us, stay for a bit and enjoy the many fabulous sights we have to offer.

This was the last stop for us on the Benalla Silo Art trail, they are really colourful silo art and are definitely worth doing the entire trail to see.
