Dinosaur Diamond Scenic Byway

Reviewed By paulsY5534PS

You could easily spend an entire vacation just visiting all the places along the Dinosaur Diamond in western Colorado and eastern Utah. We did the entire northern part of the route, except for the Cleveland Lloyd fossil quarry when the kids were youing before I even typed my first tripadvisor review. Since then, we have gone back to the southern section many times, most recently on our trip to Moab this month. Taylor B has done an excellent job of describing the entire route so I won't repeat it all here. Be sure to pick up a guide at any Colorado or Utah welcome center for a detailed route and site description so you don't miss lesser known sites like the Mill Canyon trackway just north of Moab.

If you follow Kane road, turn right at McDonalds and go about five miles past where the road turns to gravel. If you get to the 10% grade sign you have gone too far. Turn around there and watch closely and you will see it on your way back, There is a small pullout just before the rock. It is only about 15 minutes from Moab and well worth visiting.

Potash Road

This spectacular bicycle trail follows the Colorado River.

Reviewed By O722VSkenb

This is a fantastic drive. The Colorado river, otherworldly potash evaporation pools, petroglyphs, dinosaur tracks, amazing geology, movie sites and then the hair-raising switchbacks up to the Island in the Sky section of Canyonlands. You'll need a high clearance vehicle, preferably 4x4. Short wheel base will help on the switchbacks; that big ole pickem up truck gonna be hanging out over space. Leave the Accord at home for this one. I'd love to do it again.

Utah Scenic Byway 279 Rock Art Sites

Reviewed By CanesVan - Lighthouse Point, United States

I made this drive when going to the Corona Arch trail and loved all the pull offs and great signage. You can easily visit numerous petroglyphs and dinosaur tracks — and get very close to them. You will also find stunning views of the river and rock formations along the drive. Also, there are numerous campgrounds and bathroom facilities. It’s close to Moab and definitely worth driving to.
