Miskolc (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈmiʃkolt͡s] ( listen), Slovak/Czech: Miškovec, German: Mischkolz, Romanian: Mișcolț, Yiddish: מישקאָלץ Mishkoltz) is a city in northeastern Hungary, known for its heavy industry. With a population of 161,265 (1st Jan 2014) Miskolc is the fourth largest city in Hungary (behind Budapest, Debrecen, and Szeged). It is also the county capital of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and the regional centre of Northern Hungary.

The theatre with the longest history of today’s Hungary is the Miskolc National Theatre, and the history and careers of its actors are documented and displayed at the Museum of Theatre History and Acting, available to the public. The memorial place of deceased Miskolc actors and actresses was the location of the first stone theatre performing in Hungarian for 2 decades, starting from 1823.

The museum was furnished in the summer house of Otto Herman ethnographer and naturalist. The exhibition is dedicated to his life, scientific and political work. Hungarians also refered to him as "the last Hungarian Renaissance man". His house was built by his wife, Kamilla Borosnyay's plans in Lillafured, between 1898 and 1903. This house was converted to Otto Herman Memorial House.

The first industrial monument of Hungary, the charcoal heated blast furnace of Ujmassa, called „Ancient Blast Furnace”, is located 3 kilometers West from Hotel Palace in Lillafured and from the Lake Hamor. The Massa Museum is placed near to the Ancient Blast furnace. This museum introduces the 100 years-old history (1770-1870) of the Hamor Iron Mill, estabilished by Henrik Fazola.
